1. Prelude & Resurrection (9:00)
2. Forsaken (5:30)
3. Constant Motion (7:00)
4. The Dark Eternal Night (9:00)
5. Heretic (6:00)
6. Beautiful Agony (5:00)
7. Prophets of War (6:00)
8. Wither (5:30)
9. The Count of Tuscany (19:00)
Well, sure, but picking and choosing your sections from ITPoE and ANtR is "editing songs", which the OP forbade.
In that case, replace Heretic and Beautiful Agony with The Best of Times. And change the order around or something. Less interesting that way, though, and I reckon I could whip up both songs in five minutes in Audacity, so it seems a bit arbitrary. But I guess you could say that of all games, so you know! Fair doos, my bad. I was sort of doing it as "creating my ideal album," rather than playing a game. Should probably have paid more attention.

Wasn't planned to only leave 5 seconds of space.

Overall I prefer SC to BC&SL.

Actually, I'd only keep ITPOE and Repentance from SC. So, I'd look for the way of fitting those into BC&SL.

In The Presence of Enemies pt.1
Wither
The Best of Times
Forsaken
The Shattered Fortress
The Count of Tuscany

65 minutes and 14 seconds. I think its a definite improvement over the two albums, because I feel that there are no "unnecessary" instrumental parts in these songs, and I feel that its a good way of ordering the tracklist.

This is tuff guys.

Repentance  10.43
The Shattered Fortress  12.49
Prophets of War  6.00
Wither  5.25
The Count of Tuscany  19.16
In The Presence of Enemies  25.38

79:51

And yes, In that order.    I had no problem cutting Nightmare, Forsaken, Rite, Constant Motion, Lost Souls,  and Dark Eternal... but going without The Best Of Times came down to time constraints.  Going with Repentance allows for more total music.

ITPOE pt 1
The Best of Times
The dark eternal night
Repentance
The ministry of lost souls
TCOT

That could've been quite cool IMO

1. ITPOE
2. TDEN
3. TCOT

Doesn't flow that well I imagine, but they're the only things from either album i especially like. Though if we're allowed to include edited tracks the peaceful sedation section from ANTR would be in between ITPOE and TDEN.

4 Srs.  I like all the songs on BC&SL more than any of their SC "Counterparts".  Systematic Chaos' "hot & dry" master doesn't help either.

2. Constant Motion (whose final note leads right into...)
3. Beautiful Agony

5. Repentance

7. The Count of Tuscany

About 70 minutes. Yeah I could throw TDEN in there and reach the maximum, but I generally don't like overlong albums. This would be a bit more to the point.

Can’t be bothered figuring out a proper order for them, but I’m relatively confident these would be the songs I’d include.
Sincerely,

1- In The Presence Of Enemies Pt. 1
2- Wither
3- TSF
4- first 8 minutes of ANTR
5- Repentance
6- The Count Of Tuscany
I imagined the story to go more like this.

I was sitting a traffic light blaring Space Dye Vest and next to me in another car was Kevin Moore. And I'll never be open again.

The Ministry of Lost Souls
Wither
The Dark Eternal Night
Prophets of War
Forsaken
Repentance
The Count of Tuscany

Only runs 1:10:49.  I could actually find this tolerable, as it trims most of the fat from both albums.  TMoLS would also be an amazing opening, and Repentance would be a great segue into The Count of Tuscany.  Also, since this would be a "softer" album for Dream Theater (as opposed to the shredfests the albums seem to be at times), The Dark Eternal Night would really stand out.

Not sure what I was thinking with this:

Black Chaos & Systematic Linings

1. The Shattered Fortress
2. Constant Motion
3. The Dark Eternal Night
4. Forsaken
5. The Count of Tuscany
6. In The Presence of Enemies

but this would be my mash up of these two albums:

1. In The Presence of Enemies PT 1
2. Forsaken
3. Repentance
4. Wither
5. The Shattered Fortress
6. The Count of Tuscany
7. In The Presence of Enemies PT 2

Not entirely different, and there's no real good way to separate all the long tracks (which is most of them) without screwing up continuity within them, but this is a much better album than both combined.
