Same mixing guy, same artwork guy. I hope the music will play out less safe than those decisions.

I don't really like those 2 recent album covers...  :-X

I hope they could use the orchestra more again!

I think overall DT's diversity just simply puts them on top.

Yeah this. SX do very little for me. And I've tried more than I should have to. They have their moments but nowhere near enough of them. And it's pretty samey.

I love SX but can't help but to think this at times.

I'm considering joining the fan club.

I don't even see mention on how to.

I read somewhere that you have to win a duel against Russell.

I have no problems with their music or the album covers.  My only gripe is they make us wait too goddamn long for the next release.  Five years?  Really?  Three years would've been a long wait but much better than five...JFC.

I agree about the delays. There should have been a live album released in this last stretch of time

One of the worst bands when it comes to promotion and fan connection. They're always so silent, sometimes I wonder if they still exist.

Indeed, at least Blind Guardian, one of my other favourites that also kind of dissapeared, released a best of (with significant remixes and some rerecorded tracks), a boxset with almost their entire discography remixed (not better, but some interesting changes and really obvious differences) and have finished a new album alongside working on a big orchestral project (said to be two parter).

I wish Symphony X at least used the time to do some special stuff, fanservice or create/prepare for even more new material.

Yeah they could do way better. A band as great musically as this one is, should be touring all over the world all the time. Release dvd´s and shit. Not happening though. No wonder Allen´s all over the place doing other things.

Wonder what the guys do for day jobs when they aren't touring and recording ?

-Jason Rullo moved to New Mexico and he's a teacher
-Michael Pinnella is a teacher at some school in the NY/NJ area.

Don't know what the other guys' jobs are (if they have one). I'm really curious on what Romeo does on the side

New album news: https://www.symphonyx.com/site/news/the-new-album-titled-underworld-will-be-out-in-july/

Not a fan of the artwork but I am intrigued by the description of the music and songwriting in it.

Hmm, Adagio, who are often compared to Symphony X had an album called Underworld.

The artwork is a little cheap looking. Maybe it's not the final draft.

That artwork looks like a fan made from the early 2000...  :P definitely the worst SX album cover if this is the final draft..

But new SX album, no matter what the cover looks like, the music will kick ass!  :)

???  How did it not?  It gave us album title, track names, release date, the theme, and mindset of the band in creating the album...  How did it not tell us a thing about the new album?  What exactly are you looking for?

Well, yeah it did. I worded my post wrong.

I mean the whole "it's aggressive but yet soaring and emotional and everything is exactly where it needs to be" doesn't really say anything about the music on the album. I'm confident that it will be good, and we did get cover, title, tracklist, which isn't nothing, but no matter how the album sounds, those are the words that any progressive metal band ever would use to describe their music when trying to generate hype.

Me 2.   I've seen a lot worse covers - put it that way.

And I'll be interested to hear their 20 min version of Running With The Devil  ;D

The cover kind of reminds me of Iconoclast's, but with the theater masks from the s/t and V.

I'll give it a shot. I didn't really like Iconoclast, but I'm open.

Don't mind the cover at all. Cool connection with the first album.

Quote
As homage to Dante’s use of the number 3 and its multiples, the band utilizes this motif in its music either in a lyrical or melodic context. The first song on the album is a three syllable, three note melodic phrase, and in the verses there are three references to three songs on the bands third album, The Divine Wings Of Tragedy. “There’s cool shit like this all over the record,” Romeo reports.
Yes love stuff like that, my prog heart feels warm.

The only thing they need to do in order for me to like it, is to have Russell sing more clean again. His newfound aggressive voice was great on The Odyssey, but ever since it's just gone haywire.

I love his raspy power voice but yea I agree, would be nice to hear a bit more clean singing ala TDWoT.
