What's the safest way to clean the screen of an HD monitor?
« on: September 01, 2011, 03:56:46 PM »
My monitor is an eMachines 900W HD monitor and I looked at google for help but almost all the results were for how to "clean" the drives of the computer itself as opposed to actual cleaning. What kind of cloth/rag and what kind of fluid?

I'm not sure what kind of fluid specifically, but definitely don't use anything with ammonia.

Orion....that's the one with a bunch of power chords and boringly harsh vocals, isn't it?

I've always just used windex with a paper towel. I've never had any problems. I spray a towel with windex, not the screen. I then dry it with a dry paper towel.

Don't use the same kind of chemicals as you would use on glass (like windex) as they etch the screen over time. Just buy some LCD wipes from best buy or staples.

Thank god. I've had a hard enough time getting by after deleting system32.

How do you even get your system to run after deleting system32? I've heard that really messes up everything. Wasn't there a thread or something about that recently? Either way, I would advise against that.

Anyways, I usually just lick my finger and wipe off whatever is on my screen.

Me: "How?"
Cole: "Well you know when you try to scratch your balls, and you scratch too hard?
I'll admit sometimes I want to listen to Dragonforce.

Oh no, I didn't actually do it. My reference was to this: https://www.dreamtheaterforums.org/boards/index.php?topic=21443.msg1026181#msg1026181

I bought an LCD cleaner from Best Buy for like 10-15 dollars. It included a cloth and spray. While my gf thought I wasted money, I figured I played it safe by getting something I know won't damage my screen. I use it every couple of weeks on my 40" and 32" samsung LCD tvs, my gf's netbook screen, and my 24" acer computer monitor.
