I've never had forest fires reach my community, though back in fall of 07, they did come close and the ash in the air was so bad, I got to miss a couple days of school.

Anyone know the chances of it doing any damage in Vermont?
I'm sure it's going to skip over Vermont just like anyone else driving through that area.
Listen! Do you smell something?

Your example of reggae is non-existent, apparently.

Though, I'll take dead silence over that reggaeton anyday!
Now imagine it everywhere, I once had my entire beach vacations ruined by it because some people that worked there put it full blast near the beach house every day. People play it at abominable volumes :/

This post/rant thing was originally huge, I don't want to change the topic too much though. I just hate that music a lot.

Anyways, me and my family once stopped a tiny forest fire from reaching a friend's house with shovels :D My dad had some bad lung problems afterwards though.  :-[

Depending on where, you'll probably just get rain.  You might want to make sure that you don't have anything lying around outside, though, because it'll probably get blown around.

I think a lot of people in the Northeast are going to be completely unprepared for what they get this weekend.

What I've seen on the track of the storm is that the center of the storm will be over the Atlantic when it passes me, though I'll still be in the storm path. It is supposed to be a Cat 2 then.

I not preparing at all.... It's 2011 now, we haven't lost power for more then a few hours at any time over the last decade. My only concern is a tree landing on my car. I think I'm going to park it In the middle of my front yard.

be prepared for the lawn to be so soaked that you can't move your car from that spot for about a week.

Storm is now tracking further west, putting the entire East Coast at risk.

Depends where you are in MA. They aren't sure what part of the state is gonna get hit the worst... but I'm in the center of the state so I'm probably gonna get hit either way.  :lol

When was the last time a hurricane ever went that far North in the East Coast?

I know we got hit pretty hard in 99. I'm sure there have been some since then though, but I'm too lazy to check the list.  :lol

EDIT - Looks like 91 was the last time it was still a hurricane upon landfall for New England... not sure about the Canadians though.

Hurricane Isabel blew over in 2003. That's the last one I remember.

Um.

40-80 MPH winds, you're not going to be going there. lol

Most people seem to be underestimating this storm.  Long Island is going to be especially fucked, and all of the states that are north of NY are going to be trapped into this.

Anyway, the current path has they eye going right over our apartment (in Queens, NY), making landfall only about four miles away.  This will be interesting.

Yeah, this has gon from an excuse to get blasted on hurricanes Saturday night to starting to freak me out a bit...knowing what happens to the trains and subways after a heavy rain, I could see NYC being crippled for all of next work week.

They are considering shutting down the entire MTA depending on conditions.  I'm glad I don't have to rely on it.  However, I'm only a few feet above sea level here in NJ.  Should be interesting, and I hope it doesn't go past the point of being interesting.

Uh, I wouldn't count on that Chino. If it's as bad as they're saying, you can expect may poles to blow over and trees to fall on power lines. It's going to happen, and it's NOT going to be an easy fix in torrential rain and high winds.

I'd also worry about flood damage.

Looks like we're going to get a crap load of rain here in NH. I suppose I'll bring some stuff in off the deck just in case.
