Manchester Orchestra
« on: August 24, 2011, 12:48:30 PM »
I felt that this thread needed to be made, seeing as they're touring with The Dear Hunter in the fall. The only album I have from them is the new one, Simple Math, but goddamn is it awesome. Personally I would put it in the top 3 albums of this year.

If there's anyone that has heard more of their material, can you tell me what to check out next? Do they have another album that's as good as Simple Math?

Also discuss them and stuff.

Simple Math is my favorite, but "I'm Like a Virgin Losing a Child" is pretty solid too.

Heard them for the first time just a few days ago, but already in love with Simple Math.
April Fool and Mighty are my favorite songs, though the title-track isn't far behind.

I said this in the facebook chat, but I'll say it here too.

Honestly, the title track has the potential to be one of my favorite songs ever. It's that good.

Sometimes when I'm... in a certain state of mind... I just sit there watching it over and over again.  It's mesmerizing.

I've heard a few songs from them, but not a complete album. I've liked what I've heard though. I think I'll go to a friend of mine, who owns Simple Math, and borrow it.

Simple Math just keeps on growing, what a fantastic album!

Favorites right now: April Fool, title-track, Pale Black Eye, Virgin and Mighty.

The choirs in Virgin is a brilliant feature, the whole song just has such a creepy vibe.

Hey what's their music like? A broad genre generalization, please.

If I love The Dear Hunter to tears, will I like these guys too?

I'd say it's a mixture of Indie Rock and Alternative Rock, they don't sound that far from how The Dear Hunter sounds on the Red EP, where funny enough, Manchester Orchestra plays. :P

They are not as progressive as The Dear Hunter, but if you like more 'straight forward'-TDH stuff, you will probably like Manchester Orchestra.

Simply Math is pretty good. Good enough I may just stick around after TDH are done playing.

I listened to Simple Math a while ago and loved it, I just never got round to re-listening for some reason. I'll change that shortly...

I have work at 4 in the morning the next day. It all depends on how tired I feel like being the next day.

Ouch.  Ok, I guess that's a good enough reason.

You'll probably get a preview of Manchester Orchestra earlier in the night though, as I would imagine they'll be jamming with TDH on some Red tunes.

I'll probably end up staying. If I skipped out on everything social or every concert that interfered with my weird work schedule I'd never get to do anything. So I've just adopted the attitude that having fun is more important than sleep.

Listened to some samples of these guys last week. Not too keen on the vocals, but otherwise sounded interesting.

Been listening to Mean Everything to Nothing and I liked it a fair bit on first listen, but it's getting better and better with each subsequent listen, and I'm loving it now. They remind me of a cross between The Dear Hunter, Neutral Milk Hotel and Biffy Clyro.

Going to check out Simple Math and I'm Like a Virgin as well now, as they're all on Spotify. :D

Bloody hell.

That might be the best music vid ever. Like, I actually have goosebumps all over now. The ideas in it are amazing (albeit not entirely original) and the way it's directed is genuinely beautiful.

Yeah I got it this morning, listened through earlier and got about halfway through a second time. I dig it. Not sure it's as consistently good as Simple Math, and doesn't have the variety of Mean Everything to Nothing, but I like it.

Anyone listened to their album Hope? It's (mostly) acoustic versions of the songs from Cope. Listening to it now on Spotify. Holy crap, it's beautiful. It helps that I love Cope. Definitely check it out if you haven't already.
