One of my favourite bands of all times. Ritchie Blackmore is my favourite guitar player and "Rising" is one of the best albums I ever listen to. Nevertheless I think is hugely underrated and unfairly forgotten sometimes. Show your love and gently discuss. Thanks.

Long Live Rock n' Roll is a great album. :metal

Ritchie Blackmore and Dio together. What a pairing that was. I only have Rising, Long Live Rock n Roll and Bent Out of Shape. Without Dio, I'm not as interested in hearing the rest. I only got Bent Out of Shape for Street of Dreams.  :blush
Only King could mis-spell a LETTER.
Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

The get the first album "Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow" plus "On stage" and "Live in Munich 77". Dio is there.

"Down to earth" has great music too: RB, Graham Bonnet, Roger Glover, Don Airey and Cozy Powell. What a lineup!

On "Difficult to cure" you'll find one of the most beatiful instrumentals ever: "Maybe next time"

The three discs with Dio are fantastic.  I'm only a casual fan of the post Dio discs though.  "Lady of the Lake" is one of my favorites.

Great band. Great guitarist. Great vocalists.
Rising is a top 5 album for me, LLRnR a top 10 (gates of babylon is awesome).

For me Ritchie was the best of the British guitarists coming out of the 60s. And he created Yngwie...

I enjoy all eras, but the first 3 records are on a different plateau. At times, this is my favorite Dio related band. Much like Deep Purple, Rainbow was so ahead of the curve, setting standards for heavy music all over the place. But they also had the ability to pull off a weepy ballad that could bring tears to my eyes. One of the greatest bands of all time.

Rising is one of the best albums ever-the end.

I have, on both CD and DVD, Live In Munich 1977, and MAN it kills. Ritchie Blackmore's solo on "Catch The Rainbow" is a religious experience  ;D

I like Rainbow pretty much all the way through their career, even if the Dio stuff is easily the best. They moved without a lot of glitches to an AOR/hard rock sound by the time Joe Lynn Turner was around-I love Straight Between The Eyes to DEATH-and really only Bent Out Of Shape doesn't do a lot for me, as glorious a single as Street of Dreams was. The Dio/Blackmore/Powell era, live, is flat out amazing.

The Combo of Jimmy Bain, Tony Carey, Powell, Blackmore, and Dio was just stellar.  I'll never forget when I bought the vinyl of On Stage in '80...I was fucking floored.  Catch the Rainbow is a masterpiece.

I remember the first time I heard "Man on the Silver Mountain".  That voice!  Deep Purple had broken up, Blackmore had put together a new band, and it was great.  I've always liked pretty much anything I heard from Rainbow, but for some reason I never bought any of their albums.  By junior high, I was already starting to get more into prog.  But I have always loved Ronnie James Dio's voice.  One of the greatest rock voices ever.

First single I ever bought was I Surrender, so I kinda heard the poppier side of Rainbow first, but it is the Dio era I love most. Saying that Eyes Of The World and Lost In Hollywood are great great songs.

No, I had it right the first time. I love On Stage, don't get me wrong, but I prefer the one on Live In Munich...admittedly because I can SEE the solo being played.  :lol

Don't see much Joe Lynn Turner love here, but big fans of Dio-Rainbow shouldn't really count out the JLT era either.   There's some kick-ass music on Difficult To Cure, Straight Between the Eyes and Bent Out of Shape.   :metal

This, I own the three Dio-era Rainbow studio records on CD, although I have a couple of the others digitally. Dio-era is by far superior.

Jens Johansson: Keyboards
Mick Cervino: bass
Thomas Lang: drums

I'd go with that. Can't have too much Thomas Lang.

Love Rainbow... the Dio albums are timeless masterpieces, and the Doogie White one is great as well. The rest is kinda diamonds in the rough, good songs scattered among commercial and average songs, but Blackmore's average is still better than a lot of stuff out there.

When I saw Dio back in 2004 I knew I was getting Holy Diver and Heaven and Hell, I would have loved to hear at least one song between Stargazer and Gates of Babylon......... he played them both.

I'm lucky to have seen Heaven and Hell the band, but what I would have given, oh my, to see Dio and Blackmore together and witnessing Man on the Silver mountain, Kill the King, Tarot Woman, Rainbow Eyes, Temple of the King, Lady of the Lake and so many awesome songs they gifted us with.
I use my sig to pimp some bands from Italy! Check out Elvenking (Power / Folk metal), Folkstone (Rock / Medieval metal), Arcana Opera (Gothic/Noir/Heavy metal) and the beautiful voice of Elisa!

Fully admit to being a Blackmore fanboy; he is far and away my favorite musician of all time, and yes, I even like most of the Blackmore's Night stuff (you may not care for the vocals - though she's a better singer than she should be - or the lyrics - every bit as bad as they should be).

But I don't go in for the "Dio era is far superior" stuff.  The first album is middling at best, and take away MotSM and it's not even that.  Yeah, Rising is classic (in my top five records of all time) and LLRnR is very very good (Gates...) but SBTE and BOOS are stellar too.   It's all good in my eyes, and while DTC could be better (they were finding their way) it's all strong.

I just hope the new lineup does justice to the rest.

In the infamous Tour Bus Video, I recall Dio saying that side two of Rising was shit. He really dug side 1 but couldn't stand 2. That always amazed me, as the end of Stargazer is easily my favorite (of a great many) Dio moments. To the man's great credit, he still added it to his setlist from time to time.

The Combo of Jimmy Bain, Tony Carey, Powell, Blackmore, and Dio was just stellar.  I'll never forget when I bought the vinyl of On Stage in '80...I was fucking floored.  Catch the Rainbow is a masterpiece.
I have a video somewhere from that era with Dasily instead of Bane-- massive improvement. Daisly and Powell were awesome together. It's also Stone instead of Carey and his keyboard solo is fantastic.

Dio had it backwards on Rising. It's Side A that blows!

The Live In Germany DVD is outstanding. On Stage is one of my all time favorite live albums. Dio and Powell rule Catch The Rainbow! :metal
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
