I love a good quality root beer.  Can't drink it every day at every meal, but as a treat now and again, sublime.  :)

For some reason root beer pairs with a Jersey Mike's sub really well.

Jersey Mike's.  Stop, you're killing me.  There used to be one in my home town and I fell in love.   Now the closest one is about an hour away (at the casino, where I'm not usually going to eat hoagies).   When I travel for work, one of the offices I go to has one about a mile away, so I make it a point to have every lunch I can there.

There was a Jersey Mike's maybe 10 minutes away from where I lived in Florida and I never tried it. I moved, I got a new job, and the only place close enough that I can make it to for lunch was Jersey Mike's and I'll say this now. I'll never go to another sub place (unless I want a hot sub, I'll go to Firehouse) again.

I tried the "new" coke zero

Not bad. Tastes pretty much like the old coke zero.

I don't really like it, I prefer the old coke zero. There isn't that much of a difference though.

There's "New" Coke Zero?
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

Diet soda is the Devil's Semen.

It's a goddam lifesaver for those of us who have to watch our sugars and love soda though.

Plus, I'd like to think the Devil's semen would be a bit spicier...

Be careful, though; I've read some studies that are disturbing; studies to the effect that the lack of sugar in the soda can make people crave it that much more, and actually lead to an increased sugar intake overall.   (That, and the chemicals are why I say "Devil's semen").

I struggle with soda, I love it but if I drink even one then I feel like shit. So I limit my intake these days. My mother for some reason always gets me some soda when she goes grocery shopping though so there's always some in my fridge, tempting me, calling me... I just say screw the diet stuff, but only because I'm not diabetic or have to watch my intake.

What I do need to stop are energy drinks. I drink zero calorie/rehab Monsters like they're going out of business and I would like to stop but man, they're so damn good and have (almost) no calories... would save quite a few bucks if I stopped, too...

That's funny you say that; I LOVE an ice cold Coke classic... but I drink one and I feel weird.   I don't know how to describe it, but weird.  Almost nauseous, but not quite.

It's been well over a year without any soda.  I really don't struggle with cravings for it, which is amazing since I drank a lot of soda, daily.  In fact, I've cut a lot of sugar out of my diet (such as in my coffee, the same coffee I used to get my caffeine without soda).  What I have noticed though is that my body has adjusted and a soda feels wayyy too sugary now.  Well, not even a soda, just any drink that has sugar in it.  One of the drawbacks however:

I never drink soda except for spiced Rum and Coke.  Damn, those are good. :2metal:

I miss those captain and cokes.  That was a drink of choice in my past, but I stopped drinking this since I gave up soda.  I just use seltzer now as my mixer.

Yeah, Captain and Coke is dangerous.  If I kept that stuff in the house all the time, I'd probably become an alcoholic.  :lol  How is it with Seltzer?

Coke is my enemy .. I probably have more Vanilla Coke ... it goes so well with Chinese Food, Pizza or even Fish and Chips. I have cut sugar nearly everywhere else.
I usually have about 2 a week and try for the little bottles, but a lot of places only stock 600ml bottles. But I am learning to not feel like I have to have it all, have enough, leave the rest.
I will visit World of Coca Cola when in Atlanta next year though.

 :omg:

Bourbon should never be mixed with soda! Okay, well good bourbon anyway. Blanton's straight and neat, or a Maker's Mark Cask Strength poured straight and add one small ice cube. Yum!

I was a massive Pepsi junkie, quit smoking 17 years ago and gained 40 pounds. Discovered Weight Watchers and had 2 choices: Give up the soda, or switch to diet. I could tolerate, barely, the "clear" diet sodas (Sprite, 7Up), but not the colored stuff, so I basically gave it up. You'll find a variety of "gourmet" sodas in my fridge, but they're a treat and I doubt that I average one per week. Couple of my favorites that are always in-stock:
 - Mexican Coke (the only Coke that I will buy. THIS is what Coca Cola is supposed to taste like!)
 - Henry Weinhard's Vanilla Cream
 - Caruso's Dark Vanilla Cream (make an ice cream float using a super premium ice cream...it's heaven in a glass!)

When I can find it, Dang Red Cream soda will always come home with me. That's really hard to find in my area, but the Dang Butterscotch Root Beer is really awesome too.

I once litigated against Monster (formerly know as Hansen's).  Bad company.  I don't drink "energy drinks," but I wouldn't buy this company's products on principle.

That's a bummer. I was worried I was gonna hate it too, but was pleasantly surprised.

For me, I don't like the orange or purple zero flavors, but all the others I can get down with.

I'd be curious on hearing some of those details, assuming it's legal to talk about them, pg. I've heard... things. That said I freaking love their products. Phoenix is breaking my heart not liking the purple zero (one of my faves), but they discontinued my all-time favorite Monster many years ago: MIXXD. The original purple flavor that was soooo damn good. Nowadays I just stick to the rehab line with the occasional Assault. I often have 2-3 Monsters a day which I know is horribly unhealthy, even the zero calorie ones... oh well.

It breaks my heart as well since purple is definitely my favorite flavor when it comes to drinks. I'll have to try it again.

I only get monster for when I work nightshift, which is tonight. Besides that, 90% of the time I just drink coffee.

I might be the last person on earth to try an "energy" drink.  I've never tasted a Monster, Rock Star or even a Red Bull.  Maybe they taste like unicorn tears and I'm truly missing out?

I have a real sweet tooth, but it's occurring to me now that I don't really like sweet beverages.  On a typical day, I drink three things (listed in descending quantity): black coffee, water, beer.  I grew up drinking Coke Classic on a daily basis, but scaled back drastically in my early 20's and for the past 20 years only drink pop occasionally (we refer to soda as 'pop' in Minnesota, dontcha know).

I call it either soda or pop. Grew up saying pop a lot more though. (central Illinois here)

Red Bull is gross to me, and always leaves me with my head pounding a little. Not pleasant.

The cases settled, but I don't recall if the settlement agreement(s) had confidentiality and/or non-disparagement provisions (and I'm not with the same law firm, so I don't have the ability to check).  Therefore, I can't say anything about the settlement.  However, I don't think it would be inappropriate to say that the litigation was part of a strategy to compete by litigating rather than by making and marketing superior products.

You're not really missing out on anything. Red bull I never liked. Regular monster tastes like battery acid, but I like it. Its got too much sugar though, so I switched to the Zero monster which tastes a lot smoother, but overall you're not missing out on anything honestly.

I never thought I was gonna mess with energy drinks, but then grad school happened and it just got to the point where I didn't care anymore. I was so tired that I just wanted something to make it through and it did its job. I'm very glad that now I mostly just drink plain coffee with a little bit of low fat milk.

Oh, I think I remember hearing about this actually. Gotcha.  :tup

I'm with Phoenix, the regular monster has way too much sugar but man it's tasty. 12 years of drinking that shit... yikes. Still, I'd rather drink 'em than a regular soda...
