The friday before last the boss called me into his office and told me that he was laying me off effective september 1st. I asked him if it was a performance thing and he said absolutely not, it's lack of funding so I took the opportunity and said 'then use your network to get me a job' and he called a few places, one of which is ridiculously connected to me through my college, current clients, etc, just creepy good.
Last friday the guy calls me and asks me if I can come in. I told him I can but I need to go home and change since I'm in a cadaver lab, he says don't bother, just come in with your jeans, it's casual friday. I show up and talk to them, they basically have this job where I have to design medical devices and go test them in different labs around the east coast and Chicago which is a perfect job for me. They say they are very impressed, and will call.
Today I get a call and get an offer almost double what I'm making now, and a very high possibility of upcoming bonuses (they are a startup and are doing very well) and the product they are working on is going to cause a lot of interest from major companies for a buy out or funding.
So TLDR; i got laid off, a week later got a job with twice the pay and will get severance package for two months.
Feels good man, you def should care.
