if you had the 3.14 to start off with, I was unsure at first, then didn't think you were because of that.

I don't enjoy 8.  Too cubic to be a square, but not square enough to be a square of a square.

You're a square.

I guess odd numbers are supposed to be more "artistic"?  That's what I was taught in elementary school.  We had to do our own "Starry Night" and the art teacher told us to make sure we had an odd amount of stars.

wat

Actually, chefs are taught to always use odd numbers too, i.e. 1 fish, 3 scallops, 5 prawns.  It's supposed to be more aesthetically appealing.

It actually makes sense the more I think about it.

I'll never understand the appeal of aesthetics when eating a meal.

I'll never understand the appeal of aesthetics when eating a meal.

You can make a meal look presentable using various schemes, like the number of things on the plate, color, proportion, etc.

yeah I understand that, but personally I don't care about that.

If I received a meal that looked like a guy just puked it up on a plate, but it tasted good, I'd eat it.

Why in hell would a person care about whether the number of items on their plate is odd or even?

I meant they care about presentation, and odd numbers can subconsciously feed into that mindset

I think the odd number thing helps establish a "center piece" in that if you see four or two things then the center of what you're looking at is the gap between the two centermost items whereas odd numbers provide the symmetry of looking at that piece in the middle and having an equal number of its counterparts on either side. I just got reminded of the Tomato Caprese salad we used to serve at an old job. Delicious and nutritious it was

I also think an even number can signify that too much or too little on the plate for certain food items to some people. Like those little potato things (periogies or something, lonestar what are they called?), 2 would seem like not enough, 4 would seem like too much, but 3 just sounds like it'll be juuuuuust right.

Haha yeah they are killer. But you know what I mean, on a plate with other food, 4 would seem a little much in a professional setting.

Edit: Maybe it's just some kind of intuition you develop when you deal with food for many years.

Nice to see I'm not too crazy but this thread sure got crazy cuz I don't get most of it.

If '47' didn't appear SO MUCH in Star Trek it would be cute and special but the fact that they KILLED it 24/7 as per that video just irritates me to no end.

Whenever I change the volume on TV/radio/whatever, I always put an even or x5 number. Never x1, x3, x7 or x9. I have no idea why.

The more I think about it, the less I agree. Makes no sense. Odd numbers are unsettling. DIVIDE BY TWO, DAMMIT.

I don't really have any hated numbers that I can think of. Just ones that I like more than others.

What numbers do you like the most?

I particularly like multiples of 11. Only up to 99, though, because after that, they seem to lose the cool palindrome effect.  (121 being an exception, obviously)

I always do a multiple of 4 (12/16/20/etc) and in emergencies a multiple of 2 but NEVER an odd number.  I'm glad I'm not the only nutbag who does crap like this.
