I've always thought it's a little underappreciated. Yeah, it's not their best, but it does have some fantastic material.

Yea, I always liked it. It's not as consistent as the previous three albums imo, but it has some of my favourite C&C songs on it. They just can't release a bad album, they're incapable of it! Fact.

Tbh they released TCBTS (which has an amazing cover, I'll give them that). It has three good songs as far as I am concerned; Colors, Here To Mars, The Audience and one okayish song in PTTM. I can't get through a single listen for the rest.

The album is basically Afterman: Descension's terrible poppy B-side all over again.

Some of you know that I've been Coheed obsessed lately, but I have a really hard time getting into YOTBR. I don't like the production and it just feels like a really watered down version of Coheed. I like TCBTS much better, because it knows what it wants to be and achieves it.

Maybe someday I'll get into YOTBR, but right now very little of it interests me.

Maybe because Josh wasn't the drummer then.

It's possible. There's something about that album that feels more generic—much more so than TCBTS in my opinion. Like if you took a fairly generic hard rock band and made Claudio the singer. Could indeed be the drumming.

YotBR was certainly a step in a different direction. It's not their best but has some great songs imo. I also bought the special edition of this album when it was released, which came with a hardback book which was a story of the concept, maybe that helped me appreciate the album more. Well worth a read anyway  :tup

Here's a link, if anyone's interested.

I think it's better than The Color Before the Sun tbh.

I will second that. And go one step further to say that I think it blows color before the sun out of the water.

I developed a soft spot for The Color Before the Sun. Their most accessible album.

While I'm sure there will be enough rage for me just saying this generally, I won't get into a specific ranking, but frankly I find there to be two very distinct levels for Coheed. The comparatively underwhelming SSTB, IKS:3, YotBR, and TCBtS, and the stellar Good Apollo and Afterman albums.

I can totally see why people would dislike SSTB and IKS:3. It has this punk-emo sound of old Coheed that doesn't really appear on the Good Apollo and Afterman albums. I'd say those are more oriented into heavy rock / borderline metal compared to the first two albums.

IKS always seemed to go along just fine with the sound of the Apollo albums to me. SSTB stands alone; if it weren't for Claudio's vocals, I'd never even be able to tell that that was the same band.
Hire me. I'm talentless but malleable.

The albums I love and listen to a lot

-SSTB
-IKS
-Good Apollo 1 and 2
-year of the black rainbow

The albums that I enjoy quite a bit:

-After man 1 and 2

The album I rarely ever listen to and think that is below their potential:

-The color before the sun

Does anybody know if there is a special edition Good Apollo vinyl available at the merch booth for the Good Apollo Neverender? I'd like to order the one that just went on sale, but I'm wondering if I should hold out for something better when I see them in KC.

I saw them in May. Absolute blast. I don't think I've went as hard at any other show as I did to the final encore song  :heart :heart :heart

Totally. I love GA1 so the set was amazing. The final encore song took me over the edge though (may have been the same song). The thing I love about C&C gigs is the crowd participation/passion, every single person seemed to be singing every word, as loud as they could.

Just checked the set on setlist.fm, it was the same one. It was my first Coheed show so I was blown away by how loud the crowd was singing, they matched Claudio in volume pretty frequently. Was there a pit at your show? Me and one of my friends ended up jumping in the pit during Willing Well 3.

I thought it would be. Perfect song to end the show with (even if I'd have chosen 2 different songs for the rest of the encore). There was a pit and I was kind of in and out of it. It was a pretty good atmosphere in the pit actually and everyone was having a good time. Love it!!

Teaser for new album (I can only assume)

Hope they release it this year.

I tried really, really hard to get into Coheed. When they opened for Maiden some years ago, I was really impressed and bought the catalog. It just never fully connected with me. Happy for fans they are doing a new album though. Hope it rocks.

I mean it took me a few years. I bought their third album, back in '05, after hearing Welcome Home. I just didn't get it though, I thought it sucked and expected more songs like the one I'd fallen in love with.

It wasn't until '09, after listening to them on and off, that it really clicked. Now they are probably my favourite band, I have the Keywork tattoo and everything!

I didn't hate TCBtS but it's my least favourite album of theirs. It's looking like they may be going back to the concept on this new album so that's only good news as far as I'm concerned  :metal

I was introduced to this band by a girl that I worked with many years ago. We were talking about music and I told her that I was into prog, so she suggested them to me. My first album was IKS, and it still holds a very special place in my heart. Then I heard Welcome Home, and instantly loved it. I bought the album on release, but it didn't click with me until many years later. Now they're easily one of my favorite bands. Some albums are stronger than others, but I can easily listen to all of them all the way through.

One thing that I don't have any understanding of is the overall concept of the Amory Wars. I've tried to Google it to find a good explanation, but I haven't had much luck. Is there a place that I can go to find a detailed (hopefully song by song) explanation of what's going on in the story?
All of this has happened before and all of this will happen again

I really don't care if it's conceptual or not. I just want the terrible songwriting of the last album to be gone.
The Afterman albums were phenomenal except for the last few tracks on Descension which were just ok. What happened?

I partly agree, it just makes me feel that Claudio is at his best when he's writing within the concept.

Also, I actually love the last few tracks on Descension! Iron Fist, Dark Side of Me and 2's My Favoutite 1 are my three favourite tracks on that album and a damn sight better than most of Ascension imo. Definitely better than Domino the Destitute, which for me holds the crown for most overrated Coheed song!
