The most irritating thing in Canada is that they claim that it would be too expensive to upgrade the infrastructure because of the size of the country. That sounds reasonable at first... until you learn that the infrastructure is literally already in place to reach about 98% of the population, as was mandated by the government years ago. They literally just choose not to use the better infrastructure.
Recently, they've finally started using the fiber op lines that, again, have been there for years and years.
Their 'High Speed Ultra' connection is fucking 7 Mbps down, 640Kbps up, which is $54.99 CAD per month with a 12 month contract ($64.99 without).
The absolute highest speed they offer is 70/30, which is literally $100 per month.
It's pretty much the same across the country, except in most parts of the country, they get the joy of super restrictive bandwidth caps on top of that.
Over the last 10 years, Canada's internet infrastructure has gone from being one of the best in the world to an absolute embarrassment. It would be slightly less irritating if they didn't try to convince us that 10Mbps is some amazingly fast speed practically out of the future.
