I must be deaf, or have a porn-less version.

I LOVE that song, listen to it cranked all of the time, and never knew there was any sort of sexual stuff going on.  God I feel like I'm an idiot right now, haha.  I need to listen to Home more I guess!

Also, as a note, no one I've played it for has ever mentioned it or noticed it.
Do you crank the bass or something? Maybe it's less noticeable if the Bass is higher?

It's okay, but it definitely drags a little.  One of the better songs from its album.

Possibly DTs best song. Both as a standalone song and as a part of the album it's perfect IMO. Home and especially one of the parts in Fatal Tragedy are just fantastic.

Yeah, I don't think it is that noticeable, especially if you don't know it is there. *shrugs*

To be honest, on the album, I only noticed the gambling. It took the SFNY DVD to point it out. Haha.

The moaning isn't too awkward. But it gets really awkward when MP yells out, "Who wants to come?" in LSFNY.

I get a massive grower during Home.

Jokes. I love this song, it leads EXTREMELY well into TDOE. I once had a dream that Home ended on an E power chord instead of D, went into Metropolis, then Metropolis went into TDOE (it ends with a D chord). It was fucking epic and it needs to be done for real.

I tend to *shiftyeyes* when the bonage comes in, just to see if there is a reaction from new listeners. I don't think my girlfriend noticed.

Great song though.

Outstanding tune. The vocal melody and the following guitar melody extension is emotionally epic. Love it, love it, love it.

Me too. I didn't notice at first, til I listened for like the 25th time or whatever it was. Then I was like  :|. But it makes perfect sense to the story.

For some reason, I don't go equally crazy over this tune as over many of the others from SFAM. I don't know what it is, but it may have something to do with me not listening to it enough. I'm no big fan of the sitars, and the verses get a little to intense and repetitive in my opinion. But of course it's a really great song, and I really enjoy it even if it's not my favorite. My top tunes for SFAM may be Overture 1928/Strange Deja Vu and Finally Free. Love the whole album too though, of course.

Oh, definitely not.  I am somewhat of a sound purist, and play around with settings in my sound systems to make sure things are as perfectly balanced as can be.

I guess I'm just too into the music to notice the background noises.  What is the approximate time when this happens in the song?

Well, right after the second Chorus, it kinda quiets down a bit, and then it starts building and building and building, and as it builds, you can hear the sex moans and some "cha-ching" sounds of like, slots and casinos and stuff.
If you watch the "Scenes From New York" DVD, or footage of it, you even have visuals to accompany the sound effects.

Not be a contrarian, but I think it is just the opposite.  It seemed like he was always trying too hard to be funny, but rarely was.  But then again, most people aren't as funny as they think they are, so he is just one of many. :lol

Well, its a standard phrase in craps, which is why it is one of the many things you hear the croupier say in the samples during that part of the song.  But it also obviously has a double entendre that fits both of the parellel storylines, which is likely why it was included and why Mike thought it was funny to emphasize it during the LSFNY show.

I edited it and removed part of the intro (because it's too damn long) and the "porn" section, so when LaBrie says "it's calling me back to my hooooome!" Jordan's solo instantly enters. Sounds damn cool. I also shortened the ending a bit, but it doesn't sound as nice.

I never noticed the 'gambling sounds' for some reason, until I read this thread  :blush

Probably my 2nd favourite standlone song on the album, after Beyond This Life.

I didn't notice them either, until I saw the live version, and it cross faded to the guy gambling, and the casino noises were a lot louder at the concert. So once I heard them on the DVD, I couldn't help but hear them on the album.

How did you manage to cut to Jordan's solo without it sounding all chopped up? I tried and tried, but couldn't do it.

Great song.  It's really hard for me to rank the songs from SfaM, since it's such a strong album, but I love it.  Also, much like Finally Free, it's one of the foremost songs I use to argue against the "emotionless" charge so often leveled against Dream Theater.  It's really popular to say they're basically just dicking around on instruments, not imbuing their music with actual emotion.  But I'm not a musician at all, I rarely understand what Dream Theater's doing, and it's songs like Home that make me love their material--in part because of the level of emotion.

Not only is it a pivotal moment in the story, but LaBrie's delivery, along with the instrumentation, makes it extremely emotional.  I love it.

I heard the "porn" section on a second or third listen, I think. When I told my girlfriend about it she was pretty surprised, because she had been listening to the song too and I don't think she noticed it either.  I do think it weakens the song, just because there are several people for whom I haven't even played SfaM because of it.

Bump!

I was about to make a "Home" appreciation thread, but I decided to search for one instead. Then I looked at the forum starter and realized it's my old account that I forgot the name of.  :lol

Anyway, a little more about how I first got into DT through "Home" When I was around 15, I was a big Dragon Ball Z fan, and I was watching the movie: "DBZ: The History of Trunks" The film opens up with the beginning of "Home" and I was absolutely floored by the atmosphere that the song created. Once the sitars kicked in, I was sold. I looked up the song, and wala! I found my new favorite band!

A top 5 song for me but that single version is ridiculous. I can't believe how much of the song they cut out and yet I still sounds like a legit song. I hate it though.

For a start, Home is twice as long a song.
Only King could mis-spell a LETTER.
Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

THE song which truly got me into DT.

Metropolis was the first DT song I heard, but Home was the song when it all clicked.

Might have to be my #1 DT song ever.

I rarely hear this song get any praise. It's one of my top 5 favorites, and it's what single handedly got me into DT. And the orgasms during the instrumental section... beyond epic.

Absolutely one of their best and live it is amazing I really wish they would add it back in the set it used to be a staple and a real crowd pleaser. Love it.

Just made an edited version of "Home" labeled as "Home: Whomp Whomp"

It's the first verse section up until the whomp whomp's end on repeat.  :metal
