Got up early, played a couple services, met my wife and daughter for lunch, then went home for a three-hour nap. Got up, my son insisted on taking me and the whole family out to dinner. He finally got a job last month, has money, and wants to give something back (good man!)
Went to dinner at a place called Ted's, which has the best burgers I've ever tasted. Before we sit down, one of the hostesses with a camera asks if we want a picture taken, and it comes with a $5 gift card. Sure, why not? She takes the picture and goes away, I forget about it. Later, she shows up with this card, Happy Father's Day from Ted's and the picture inside. Cool!
But when we left, we forgot the card on the table. Ten minutes down the road, my wife realizes this and calls the restaurant, and I turn the car around. Obviously they'll find it when cleaning the table and will stash it somewhere until we come back and claim it. All restaurants do this. Apparently, all except Ted's. When they cleaned the table, they threw it away. Seriously? My wife was pissed, she made them check, dig around in the trash a little, etc. It had only been ten minutes. But it was gone. They gave her some more $5 gift cards to try to cheer her up.
It wasn't that big a deal, it wasn't something I'd even planned on having, but it was cool having a memento of my Father's Day dinner, and seriously, what the fuck kind of restaurant literally just trashes stuff people have left on the table? I've never heard of a place that didn't at least stash "lost and found" stuff on a shelf until closing time, and if people don't call or come back and claim it in a day or two, then maybe toss it. So it was a bummer to cap off an otherwise pretty sweet Father's Day.
