Protip: Don't Get Pneumonia
« on: June 08, 2011, 10:10:28 PM »
Been getting increasingly sick since last Friday and decided to see a doctor.  He ordered a chest X-ray which confirms pneumonia.   :-[  Now I'm on a 10 day regimen of antibiotics and got two shots of antibiotics today as well.  Great way to start off the summer...  :censored

Obviously I kid. As much as I hate getting sick during the winter when it gets really hot like it is now that's when it's the worst.

I think I see what you did there.
I imagined the story to go more like this.

I was sitting a traffic light blaring Space Dye Vest and next to me in another car was Kevin Moore. And I'll never be open again.

It's ok, I may feel miserable, but I still have a sense of humor!  I student teach at a middle school, so I probably picked it up from them.

The worst I felt was waking up at 3am not being able to get back to sleep or get warm. 103F temperature and feeling my wrists, ankles, calves and knees start to go numb due to short/shallow breathing.

I don't like antibiotics.  It took my digestive system weeks to get back to normal, and I was only on them 4 days.
In high school my buddies and I built a Van Der Graaf generator.  You know, to get girls.

Are your meds in liquid form?  I'm taking azithromycin and it's in a pill form.  I can't eat anything because I have no appetite.  I tried eating last night and felt full right away.

Let's see, both my meds are pills, Levaquin and Metronidazole, and I take a steroid inhaler four times a day too.  My appetite is getting better, but everything still taste like medicine.  Incidently, I caught mine in the hospital while being treatged for a pancreas breakdown, so the antibiotics might be serving both.

That sucks, I hear hospital contracted pneumonia is generally more severe than community contracted pneumonia because the bacteria is more resilient.  Feel better so you can get back in the kitchen!  For some reason, my ex didn't seem to appreciate well wishes like that...

That stuff works fantastic for me, and I've got a bit of an antibiotic quandry at times (amoxicillan wrecks my stomach).

My own protips for antibiotics --
never on an empty stomach
if it says twice a day, get it in you 12 hours apart or as close as possible
finish ALL OF IT NO MATTER WHAT
eat yogurt - the antibiotic will kill some of the good bacteria in your stomach. yogurt helps keep it replenished while you're on the antibiotics
if you're.. uh... bound up, eat fiber and avoid everything i'm about to list under the next tip -
if you'r NOT bound up, eat the BRAT diet -- bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast. these help to firm stuff back up... yeah
drink lots of WATER, not just "fluids"... the more your stomach hurts, the more you should be thinking "I need water"

from a mom and chronic antibiotic user. and if the zithromax/azithromycin doesn't do it, ask for omnicef/cefdinir. Friggin expensive compared to amox/zithro but worth it if the others fail. Its what I get almost always now cuz i'm tolerant to too many others now.
