The exact tweet/FB post was:

Five more Steven Wilson classic album remixes are to be released this year, including two iconic 80’s albums that reached number 1 in the UK and USA respectively. All should be officially announced over the next few weeks.

I am trying to figure out what those 80s albums would be, too.  It'd be awesome if The Police's Synchronicity was one of them (it did go to number 1 both here and the UK), but does Wilson have the pull and name recognition to do a remix for a band as popular and mainstream as them?

SW just confirmed this morning that the 80s album is Tears for Fears' Songs from the Big Chair.  :tup :tup

Jethro Tull's War Child is also getting the SW 5.1 treatment.

Whoa, the text announcing that came through to my phone as I was reading this  :lol

I don't have that album, but I do know that "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" was the #1 song on the day I was born.

I really like Tears for Fears (The Seeds of Love is one of my favourite non-prog albums), so this is a pleasant surprise!

Yeah, the Tears For Fears official FB page just confirmed it.

Songs From The Big Chair will be re-released on November 10th, and will be available in 5 formats, including a 6-disc deluxe edition box set with previously unreleased material and a 5.1 surround sound mix by Steven Wilson.
More info at https://tearsforfears.com

Pretty awesome. I've been meaning to add the band to my collection, but don't own anything by them yet, so this will make for a good first purchase.

Brilliant!  Songs from the Big Chair is one of the greatest albums of the 80s there I said it.

Wow I love the sound of those snippets, particularly the last two. Sounds like it may be a bit more varied than trtrts. High hopes would be an understatement!

More electronics and straightforward pop songs? Hell yes! I liked The Raven, but I'm glad the next album will be more diverse, because prog isn't the only style SW is good at.

Jacked and pumped for this album. I get a kick out of most here.  Of course the next album would have a different feel to it.  That's Steven's M.O.

That was awesome! Loved the last clip the most, but the poppy tune sounded pretty interesting.

Also got a Mastodon feel from the clean guitar part around 0:50. Hearts Alive, that kind of stuff.

Right. The cycle begins. The mysteries that will be revealed as the months go on.

Sounds like it'll be a mixture of shorter songs, then the "3 longer, more progressive songs" (quoth SW). Also, the female lead vocal in the last clip is a very interesting touch. Not many duets in SW's catalogue.

I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

I went into the video skeptical and certain that I would be totally indifferent, but the longer the video went on, the more it won me over. Don't get me wrong, Steven Wilson is still one of my favorite musicians, and I will buy anything he puts out. But if this had been a straight follow-up in the 70s prog rock sound again, I would probably only buy it on autopilot, but basically everything he said about the album was great IMO.

+Variety and more influences (he does Prog great, but he is talented at so many genres, so I love this)
+Mix between long songs and short
+Keeping the same band (because at this point I really love the band)
+SW letting go of the prog and jazz elements might suggest a PT reunion is more likely now than it was a year ago (or maybe I'm just hoping)

The only part I feel a slight worry about is that, trying to pull off an album with a lot of variety can be tricky. While Raven was my least favorite album out of his solo albums, it's still very cohesive and consistent, and the overall theme is great. Making an album that kinda goes all over the place is harder, because it's hard to keep that feeling. But he pulled it off on Insurgentes (which was a bit here and there), and if anyone can craft an album it's SW, so I think the doubts are gone for now. And a duet at the end? Holy shit.

So yeah, from being a bit lukewarm and not overly excited, I feel like these comments re-awakened the excitement again.  :hat

Looking back at page 1, this is the third album cycle covered on this thread. We're able to see immediate-aftermath reactions to both GFD and TRTRTS here.

I think the quality of this man's music is such that, it doesn't matter if he goes in a wild pop-country-EDM extravaganzza, I'd still probably love it.

I could not agree anymore.  I've loved all his output no matter what influences he has at the time.

Yeah, I remember being somewhat skeptical towards his experimental approach to Insurgentes when it first came out, but there was one moment where it just clicked and I went like HOLY SHIT.

Probably that moment in Abandoner when the huge distorted sound kicks in before the song ends.

Yeah, I truly respect artists who can't stand the "been there, done that" feeling. SW, Opeth, Queen, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, those are the bands I hold, artistically, in highest esteem.

Wilson might be my #1 musical hero this days, followed closely by Peter Gabriel.

There's no describing the wonderful things I've felt by listening to him. For years, I was extremely bummed he put Porcupine Tree aside (I still am, but to a lesser extent), but I think that once you fully comprehend his solo work it all makes sense (his decisions, at least). I don't care if it's with Porcupine Tree or his solo band, but I will always want him to keep creating music.
