Lyricist Predictions for each song from the new album
« on: June 07, 2011, 11:49:10 PM »
Let's have a little fun with this...
I think Labrie uses more of the "simple" song titles and I think he will have more contributions to the lyrics this time around. I think MYUNG will actually contribute to one or maybe two songs. What do you guys think?

My prediction for the lyricists:

1. On the Backs of Angels - Petrucci
2. Build Me Up, Break Me Down - Labrie
3. Lost Not Forgotten- Labrie
4. This is the Life- Labrie
5. The Shaman’s Trance- INSTRUMENTAL or Myung
6. Outcry- Petrucci
7. Far From Heaven- Myung
8. Breaking All Illusions - Petrucci
9. Beneath The Surface- Petrucci

Mostly Petrucci, a couple of LaBries, and of course the "couple of Myungs" that JR's got us all hyped up for. I can't imagine them closing or opening an album with anyone but Petrucci, for some reason. It'd be nice, though. Start with a Myung song. Never happened before.

On the Backs of Angels will be a Petrucci song about how there are wings on the backs of angels and that's what makes them different from us; they have wings and we don't.

Build Me Up, Break Me Down will be a Petrucci song about writing a song called Build Me Up, Break Me Down, which features a slow build-up through three verses and then an epic breakdown.  Sadly, the actual song will be nothing like that.

Lost Not Forgotten will be about how James LaBrie didn't forget his house keys, he lost them.  Exclusive lyrical preview: "Seriously guys.  It's not like I didn't remember to take them with me, I just couldn't find them.  And yes, I checked in the sofa cushions."

This is the Life will be a Petrucci song in which he tells us he was just kidding with Endless Sacrifice; being a rock star is actually totally awesome.

The Shaman's Trance will be a Petrucci song about a Shaman who goes into a trance, and how everyone else around him gets bored and leaves because it's really boring to watch a guy just sit there.

Outcry will be about fan reactions to Mike Portnoy's departure, and the lyrics will all be taken from posts on DTF, though Petrucci will take credit for the lyrics.

Far From Heaven will be a Myung song about the human condition and mankind's fall from a state of grace.  While the printed lyrics will be awesome, they will be totally inaudible on the album because the mix will feature the guitar and keys so heavily that we can't hear anything else.

Breaking all Illusions will be a Petrucci song about how he tried to take up magic as a hobby, but destroyed an entire magic shop out of frustration after he realized that bears just aren't very good at sleight of paw tricks.

Beneath the Surface will be a Petrucci song about how sometimes people are deeper than you think, and have layers beneath the surface, but other times there's a third even deeper layer that's just like the top layer.  Like pie.

/silliness

Actually, I'll go with those predictions on the lyricists, with the exceptions of 5 and 9... 5 will be an instrumental, and 9 will be the second Myung song.

All songs co-wrote by Desmond Child, Russ Ballard, Linda Perry and Bob Ezrin.

Some backing vocals from Terry Brock, Jim Peterik, Jimi Jamison and Joe Lynn Turner.

All lyrics by Bernie Taupin.

My prediction: 11 Grammys... And DTF mass suicide.

2. Build Me Up, Break Me Down - Petrucci (sounds like a -core song...)

That indeed would be great title for a song that includes a riff from auditions...that low tuned, the first one They throw to Mangini.

So...maybe the song will be a lovely ballad (Build Me Up) with an unbelievably brutal metalcore breakdown (Break Me Down) in the middle? Sounds like fun.

Build Me Up, Break Me Down will be a Petrucci song about writing a song called Build Me Up, Break Me Down, which features a slow build-up through three verses and then an epic breakdown.  Sadly, the actual song will be nothing like that.

"And the peculiar thing is this my friend... the song we sang on that fateful night, it didn't actually sound anything like this song!  This is just a tribute!"

I approve.  =D
