A book recommendation thread, kinda like CS's
« on: June 06, 2011, 07:16:13 PM »
I would've just posted in CS's topic, but I didn't think it right to post looking for my own requests, especially because I am interested in one specific criterion: a realistic fictionesque narrative set in a space age civilization.  What I mean is no high flying adventure, although a political drama or something might be acceptable.  Basically what I'm saying is, does anyone know a book that treats a sci-fi setting like the far future as it would a contemporary setting?  So like your typical coming-of-age or period piece, except set in the future rather than a modern or past setting?

Yes.... the one a couple of us recommended, Persidio Sreet Station.  Set in a future, on some far away isolated world.  Absolutely 0 space exploration...etc...  ;D

The City & The City would be another good recommendation along that line.

Intriguing, but I'm not finding it on Amazon.  Are you sure that's spelled correctly?

It's "Perdido Street Station".  By China Miéville.
