Protest The Hero Appreciation/Discussion Thread
« on: April 29, 2009, 05:33:57 AM »
This is a thread is for fans of the band to talk about 'em here ;D

Not much news for them, lately, since the release of Fortress - most recent things are a U.S. tour and a seizure-inducing music video for "Spoils" (one of my favorite PtH songs, and I always wondered by it was so underrated).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y45HI7H9DMc

For now, I just patiently await their third offering, though I'm sure we'll waiting a year or more

I have been listening to Kezia non stop the last week. Awesome band.

I actually can't think of many bands that have released so much awesome in their first 2 albums.
"Once he had forests and mountains that were only his - listening to him. Once he would run through the summer days catching memories for ages to come. Now he is dressing this naked floor with his flesh and blood, and time passes by. His trade of pain might just have lead him to deal with consequence for some change as time passes by"

Yep. If their third album is even nearly as good, I think they'll shoot into my top five favorite bands of all time.

What are everyone's favorite songs?

Best songs?

Fortress
--------------
Bone marrow
Bllodmeat
Sequioa Throne

Kezia
--------------
Divinity Within
A plateful of our dead
Blindfolds aside

...and at this point in time I think Kezia is the better album but it's very close.

Although I can appreciate the music, I don't think i'll ever get used to vocals like that.

Not my thing.
Currently listening to:

Anathema - We're Here Because We're Here *****
Kamelot - Poetry For The Poisoned **
Les Discrets - Septembre Et Ses Dernières Pensées ***1/2
Porcupine Tree - Deadwing *****
Symphony X - The Odyssey ****1/2

Sweat, skin, a pulse divine to balance this restless mind.

Fair enough. I appreciate the fact you aren't mindlessly bashing. It took me around two months to get into 'em.

And @ shadow, if we're going for three per album:

Kezia: Blindfolds Aside, She Who Mars The Skin of Gods, Divinity Within
Fortress: Spoils, Wretch, Bone Marrow

And yeah, I do agree Kezia is better (hardly, but still, just more solid. The best of Fortress is better, the worst of it is...worse.)

I love a lot of their more melodic moments, but I think their songs are brought down by some of the craziness in between the melodic moments. But overall they're a fun band to listen to when I'm in the right mood.

Seriously, one of my favorite band, excellent musicians, excellent technique very dynamic and awesome vocalist. To be able to put vocal parts over this musical mess is nothing short of a miracle  :metal

I'm just getting into them but god damn I love the energy they have. It makes their album really fun to listen to. I've heard Kezia a few times but only listened to some of Fortress. I need to give them a few more spins since I'm going to see them in Worcester in a week and a half.

I played Fortress for 2 months solid and really really enjoyed it.  Bought Kezia, gave it a few listens and just thought it was rubbish in comparison.  Everything about it seems a lot less mature then Fortress (music and lyrics.).  It makes me appreciate how much the band had grown in between Kezia and Fortress.

But, appreciates x10

Two years between Kezia and Fortress.  I dunno how much growing you can do in two years.  A lot by the sound of things.

Seriously. I was impressed when I heard the Mikael Akerfeldt was 19 when Opeth recorded Orchid, but that's got nothing on Kezia.

yeah, Kezia is my favorite debut album of any band, just because of what they were able to do at such a young age.

I wouldn't call it a debut, though. If early EPs were debuts then almost every band's first LP would be their sophomore album.

Imo fortress > kezia (but incredibly close, I prefer the heavier style of fortress I guess)

And more love for Divine Suicide of K from kezia please  :sadpanda:

But seriously, these guys are pretty amazing. Pity that the singer seems very weak live from the videos I've seen  :-\ Can someone here confirm that who's been to a gig?#

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y45HI7H9DMc

Their singer has a different hair/beard style every video I swear  :lol

i saw them a year and a half ago, and rody was great live.  he changes up some of the vox, but i think it makes it interesting. hes not perfect live, but his energy makes up for it.

seeing them again on the 12th, so i'll post again after that

if anyone was watching the revolver golden gods awards on mtv2. there was a split second of protest the hero winning best viral video award. they were all wearing weird tight outfits and wigs, holding rody who was at the mic. i can imagine how that went with all the metal community there. ill try to get a screen cap.

i think only rody and tim were there, dont know who the other guys are
