i think that's the worst song on kezia, so if you like that, then you will certainly like the rest.

Not the worst song at all, but there is still lot better. If you want to start with something Punkier, go with Kezia, then for Metal go with Fortress

Saw these guys last night at the Palladium. The sound/mix was pretty shitty since we were crammed into the foyer area instead of the main area where shows are usually played. They're just as technically impressive live as they are on the CD when I could make out the lead guitar over the muddy mix of bass and rhythm guitar. Rody wasn't bad though he fucked up the rhythm of the lyrics during part of Blindfolds Aside. He was a huge asshole to the audience too but it was more funny than anything. Some people took a lot of offense when he said "Listen guys we don't pick songs you wanna hear, we pick songs we like to play". Due to the mix the only songs I could definitely pick out were Bloodmeat, Blindfolds Aside, Sequoia Throne, and Goddess Bound/Gagged. No encore either but I dunno if that was a planned thing or if they were having a bad night. Every seemed more into Misery Signals.

I just bought Fortress a few days ago, and I can honestly say I've NEVER been so blown away by an album on first listen. There wasn't a single second that didn't amaze me. I love it because it's so chaotic and unpredictable (even when compared to other prog), but at the same time it's cohesive, and I immediately fell in love with the vocals. They're backed by so much attitude and confidence, whether clean or screamed/growled. Incredibly album, I'd have to say Bloodmeat is my favorite track right now. I may or may not check out Kezia but I don't feel like I need to...

Awesome, glad you like it so much. Bloodmeat is indeed and awesome song.

Kezia isnt really as crazy and I dont like it as much, but before the forum restart, I made a poll on which album people preferred and it was pretty much dead even. So you may wanna check Kezia anyway.

Hmm, so is it completely different or sort of the same feel just less crazy? The thing is I buy my music on itunes which means an album costs $10. So sometimes I regret buying two albums by the same artist in a row instead of always discovering new music. I kind of wish I had a way to just download whatever I wanted though, then I would definitely check it out immediately ;)

I personally prefer Kezia to Fortress, most of the second half of Fortress isn't very good whereas there is at least one amazing song in each "act" of Kezia.

I agree it does go downhill, especially the last two songs. Although maybe with a few more listens they'll grow on me. But the first half or so is just explosive. And I like some of the instrumental sections they stick into the last minute of some of those songs. The one at the end of Bone Marrow (I think, the one with the acoustic guitar and piano) is cool, and the one at the end of Palms Read is awesome too.

I used to think the same thing too. I would only really listen to the first 4 songs because they were so great. But I found that after I fell in love with Spoils, the second half of the album is just as strong and enjoyable. Only song I dont really like is the last one. You just have to give the last few songs a lil more attention, because they do sound a lil samey and less enjoyable at first.

I much prefer the second half of Fortress. Spoils and Wretch are my two favorite songs on the album, and Goddess Gagged and the second half of Goddess Bound are incredible as well.

Don't really care for Limb For Limb, which is a shame because it's their concert ender

I'm listening to Kezia now... I like the music, but the vocals are of the "emo" variety and don't really fit the music, in my opinion.  I would've preferred screamed/growled vocals in the vein of BTBAM over them.  I'll give them a fair chance though, since so many people here love them so much.

I don't know if the vocals in Kezia sound completely differnt from those in Fortress (which they might considering how young they were when Kezia came out), but the vocals in Fortress are some of the best I've ever heard and I don't think they come even close to "emo". They're backed by so much attitude and confidence, and his range is incredible. He just soars over the music in an absolutely kickass way, especially in Bloodmeat. And the screaming/growling is also awesome, especially since it's actually used sparingly which makes it even better when actually done.

Actually, I'm listening to the same songs on headphones now, and it's amazing what a difference they make.  This album is actually quite good.  I'll have to give it a few more listens, but I'm beginning to like what I hear quite a bit.

I dont really care much for Goddess Bound/Gagged.  My interest starts to wane around there.  Alot of the songs on Kezia are very similar, I find.  But then there are the golden moments, like the end of 'Turn Soonest...' that makes it special

I just realized he says "Excape" instead of "Escape" in Palms Read.

I know I say this, and Protest is from the city next to me...so is this just a Canadian/regional thing or do other people say it like that?

Good to start with Kezia, for continuity purposes if anything.

Also, anyone picked up 'Gallop Meets the Earth'?  Got it the other day, pretty mean to see these guys in a live situation, don't think they'll be heading my way anytime soon.  Pretty brave move releasing a live album after two albums (pretty much, not counting the previous stuff).
