new album is good. Some surprises. But there's not a lot of acoustic sections as I hoped.

C'est la vie is fucking awesome!

Look forward to the rest, what is the release date anyway?

The way I've heard it described is basically Fortress at a quicker tempo with no growling. Haven't listened to it yet though, so I don't know how accurate that is.

I assume Fortress is the place to start with PtH?

Never listened to them before but want to get into them because I'll be seeing them at Soni in the summer probably

It is....available.

To be honest I've found it a bit underwhelming on the first few listens, but I haven't put it on my MP4 player yet and it's normally then, when the music is all I can hear, that I fully appreciate new albums.

I would suggest Kezia, not Fortress.

Personally I disagree. Kezia may be the better album once you are a fan of the band's style, but Fortress is much more accessible as a first listen of the band, imo

First listen I was dissapoint. On my second now and it's better. I know it's only a matter of time before it clicks, but Fortress was such an instant punch to the face I was a bit let down initially. The songs definatley seem longer, even if their not much longer than the ones on Fortress, I think just because their not as compact and bullet fast.

Listening to the Album, a few thoughts so far:

-"Moonlight" is my favorite song so far
-I think 2:20 (i think thats the timestamp) of "Tapestry" is beautiful
-The intro of "Dunsel" is amazimg

Done with first listen-through.
I'm not pumped by what I've heard yet, but I usually need some listens to a new album like this before I can give it a verdict. I'm sure it'll grow considerably on me within the next 3-4 listens...
Termites may be my favourite after the first going through, but alot of other promising bits all over.

I'm actually not ok with that. The album could be a lot stronger with the growling. With that said, it's still pretty damn good.

I haven't gone searching for the new album yet, mainly because I still haven't listened to Kezia.

I think the lack of growling makes the album feel more samey and thus less of a punch like kezia and fortress are on first listen.

That said, Sex Tapes is my favourite song, and whilst it's highs arent Kezia/Fortress highs, it's lows aren't as low as Fortress' (dat keyboard solo).

The songs just seem to ramble on and on without actually bieng that long, and the whole album doesn't feel very "heavy" save a few select moments.

I still think it's the lack of variety that makes it feel more "samey", because with each listen i'm liking it more and more, and songs really stand out now. Give ten listens and see what you think.

Listened again today, and in reference to the other thread in GMD, I think this album is underwhelming because it doesn't have any 'moments.' Fortress and Kezia were full of those parts you knew were coming and anticipated every time, but I can't hear anything like that on this record. I also think that with the lack of harsh vocals his singing voice gets pretty grating. It was OK on the other records because it was offset by the growling and screaming, but I don't think his clean voice is strong enough to carry (almost) the whole album.

It's good, but not great. Which is a shame. At least live he's still singing the old songs with the harsh vocals, a lot of bands change the old songs to their 'new' style once they make a stylistic change (Trivium, A7X) and that doesn't really work out in most cases.
