We're renting the home we're living in currently, but also own a home (mortgage) that we're trying to get rid of in aother area of the country that we moved from.

Why do you ask? Are you considering buying?

I'm renting an apartment.
In high school my buddies and I built a Van Der Graaf generator.  You know, to get girls.

I personally rather buy than rent if it's feasible unless I know I will be moving around a lot. :3 Right now I am just starting up my career though, and plan to save for a place in the long run.

I'm renting an apartment.

+ a roomate for me.

i think renting is a better way to go. even with a fixed mortgage, market fluctuations are way too unstable for me.
There is so little respek left in the world, that if you look it up in the dictionary, you'll find that it has been taken out.

It's better IMO if you're single or even married without a family. The stability of owning a home can be nice when you have a family. And paying off your mortgage frees up a ton of monthly expenses, so it's great for retirement aged folks. The biggest lesson I've learned is that a home should not be treated as an investment, but a home that you will enjoy living in for the long term and not care much about the value of it.

I'm renting an apartment.

This.

When I making the good money, I would like to get my own house. Especially since I like to practice my instruments loud, and sing loud as well.

You have to put a deposit first while you're paying rent and then for a few years the mortgage will not usually AFAICT be any cheaper - more likely more expensive than renting!

Right now I live in a university-owned dorm, and I'll be renting a house with a few other people when I get back to the states.
