Your Bucket List
« on: May 24, 2011, 11:43:13 AM »
As the title says, list the stuff you want to do before you die. My top ones are...

1- Dine at the French Laundry- Top American chef Thomas Keller's Napa restaurant, a ground breaker in how we define eating.  To have the pleasure of his 18 course tasting menu is very high on my list.

2- Have a beer in a pub in Ireland- My family's homeland, and a culture I have always identified with in my life, to visit it would be an honor.

3- Tour the U.S.A. in an RV-  A friend of mine crossed the country on his bike to raise funds for AIDS, and his stories of the midlands of our country touched me deeply, and I wish to become closer with the land I love, from every angle.  I've seen all of Cali, and lived in Atlanta, and the differences between those two are enormous, and I desire to see what the rest of our land is like.

Let it fly, DTF, what needs do you have on this trip on the big, green, ball we call Earth.

In no order at all.

1. Learn to fly a small plane.

2. Skydive.

3. Spend a year or two in Ireland.

4. Finish my 5 books.

5. Get at least ONE of my musical projects finished.

7. Think of a 6.

8. Move back to Israel and die there.

1) Sit in the middle of Stone Henge. I don't care if it's against the rules.

2) Go to the Grand Canyon and throw something down it.

3) Na'vi role play sex.

4) Go down in DTF history.

Good luck with that one, not to mean getting the opportunity, but hitting the ball.

I've done that.  My best friend's cousin was a major league pitcher (a career LOOGy - Lefty One Out Guy).  Fastball maybe was 89 mph and I had trouble bunting it.  He also had a wicked 12-6 curve that just made my jaw drop when I saw it fall off the table.  And the guy was a NOBODY in the majors.  I'd hate to face down the Big Train or Randy Johnson in their primes.

What about trying to hit Tim Lincecum.  Fucking scary shit there.  I did a batting cage at 80mph, and was happy to make contact.

I was always an above average BB player through high school and even got a scholarship to play at St. Johns, but tore up my knee the summer before my freshman year, rather than looking at months and months of therapy I decided to hang up the cleats and concentrate on my studies, looking back now its something i regret. We have cages down here that have 90 MPH fastballs I can hold my own in them, but than again its totally different with a live pitcher standing on the mound rather than a machine groving pitch after pitch to you

I remember in high school *cough, cough*, I threw about 85mph. About 15 years later the family went to an amusement park and they had a speed gun and I threw 3 balls and after the first pitch at 60 I felt like I threw my arm out.  The care they take for their arms is unbelievable.  Also the wear and tear.

Don't have a big list because I don't put my life under a grand scheme, but here's two:

- Travel around the world on a hiatus (coming up next month!)
- Release an album of my own music

This is turning into the past regret thread...

The ball part of my arm ripped in half when I was pitching when I was 13.  I don't go around pointing it out, but if you ever meet me and wonder why my right shoulder just kind of hangs there and is rounded off...well now you know.  My only consolation was that it was appearently a growth defect and not the issue of throwing curve balls or over-use.  It had a finite lifetime appearently.

Hmm, this needs more thinking than this quick answer...

- do some whale watching, preferrably under water
- base jumping
- flying (or whatever the English expression is) with a hot air balloon, preferrably over the Alps
- buy a MINI cabrio

One thing I'll actually do this summer: hiking across the Alps (in 8 days).

Oh, Edith says: go to RoSfest.

Keep prog alive - see it live!

I didn't blow my arm out till my 30's, playing outfield in a drunken softball league, thinking I was still 16 and trying to throw guys out at home.  Now my shoulder sounds like popcorn when I rotate it.

I need to add breaking a 50 in my pool league.  Been playing for over 20 years, and it is the one pastime I truly love.  In four games, max score of 15 each, a 60 is the highest possible, and pretty much impossible, but a 50 would give me serious credence as a shooter.  My current high is a 47.
