That trailer sounds great!  Does it come out in September or October?
Smarch.

If that were the case, wouldn't it be out already?  :lol
I don't think Smarch has rolled around this year yet.
I felt its length in quite a few places.

I remember reading that they claimed the album is definitely going to sound like a "super heavy Led Zeppelin". I hear it in this song. And I fucking like it.

Interesting that they said that, as I remember Brent comparing Crack the Skye to Led Zeppelin IV.

EDIT: In the DVD that came with the special edition of the album if anyone's interested.

Yeah, and all the uploaded Youtube versions of the song have been blocked.

Fuck you, WMG. Way to promote. Release a song, pull it soon after, then claim copyright infringement when people try to share it. Cocksuckers.

Here's a working video of the new song...at least, for now:

I like it a lot. I'm happy to see the vocal improvements have carried over from CtS. I'm very excited about this album now.

I loved this band when I heard Remission, Leviathan and Blood Mountain.  CTS was IMO their weakest effort by far, and this seems like it's in the same vein.  Musically it reminds me of Blood Mountain which is good, but I wish they would go back to their Remission/Leviathan style vocals.  The energy is simply not there anymore.  I will buy the album and judge it fully, but Mastodon has been so watered down and tame lately.

I wish Brent would leave the singing up to Troy too, I really don't like his voice.  I have been disinterested with the band as Brent started singing more and more.  It's a shame because they were my favourite band for a about a year, and Leviathan would be in my top albums of all time.

Going back to Remission vocals would mean more ripping out of ears.  I'm glad they're refining their voices a bit.  Plus, I don't think those kind of vocals would work on this song, so maybe there's more of what you're looking for on the rest of the album.

In any case Crack the Skye is amazing and this new song sounds nothing like it.

Totally agree about this new song sounding nothing like CTS, I was only referring to the vocals.  It does sound this album might be more heavier than CTS, at least I'm hoping so.  I just liked the balance of vocals on Leviathan.  I feel there is a lot less variety in their vocals lately, especially when they are not great clean singers to begin with.

I like the combination of simplicity and bad assery that the standard album cover has. Though the special edition one is pretty cool too.
Cole: "Ow I just got hit in the balls"
Me: "How?"
Cole: "Well you know when you try to scratch your balls, and you scratch too hard?
I'll admit sometimes I want to listen to Dragonforce.

I think I prefer the deluxe edition artwork. I mean, don't get me wrong, the original is fucking awesome as three whole fucks. But like, this one just FEELS like Mastodon and its power is maximum.

Loved the standard artwork, but orgasmed nearly at the deluxe.  Definitely getting the deluxe  :P
Black Tongue was also a fantastic song, this album will probably snatch 2nd or 3rd place for top 20 of the year.
EDIT: Wolfking, I saw them live when they supported the CTS and they definitely can sing.. Leviathan to me was their weakest album.  I like that this sounds like BM but with vocals from CTS.  Its a beautiful asskicking combination.  Just my opinion though.

Yep.  I think the neon figures to each side help it a lot.  Definitely getting deluxe edition just for that artwork.

EDIT: Hmmm....$50 for just some advance songs, a poster, and CD/DVD.  I might have to reconsider.

That's fine.  I do like like their voices, I just think they need the variety that they had on Leviathan, which IMO worked perfectly.
