The Hunter is freaking great. It's right there with their top stuff for me.

Absolutely. Although I find it extremely hard to rank their albums.

Also - Bill said himself that he *doesn't* do lead vocals on Deathbound or indeed any song - at least in the studio.

My Vinyl was due to arrive a few days after release date so I paid a little bit more to get it on the day :)

Anything i've ordered from Amazon in the last year has always arrived the day before the estimated date so here's hoping ;D

Part 7.

Oh, man. I can't tell you how happy I am that there will be cumin and A-1 steak sauce on this record!  :metal

I've decided to go old school with this album. No downloads before release (or post release), no Spotify. Waiting for it to come in one of the CD shops here and I hope they'll have it on release date but I doubt it :lol If I get to hear it a week later I'll be happy

Well I'm gonna give it a listen at midnight even though I have work at 10am.

But I'm not listening to a leak - plus my vinyl arrives 10am Friday :coolio

Only 4 days to get through. Easy.

Still not tempted by a leak.

Even with all this coffee i've had :neverusethis:

Butt SRSLY - It's out on Friday and Spotify / Deezer at midnight. I can wait.

I've ordered the double vinyl. The first "new" album i'll be buying on Vinyl and not CD. It makes sense to me. I can still listen to a digital version on Deezer when i'm out and about

or if I can't be bothered putting the vinyl on. Also these days - some vinyl albums come with a high quality download or you can download it digitally from Amazon plus it's

on streaming services so I don't mind not having the CD.

I received shipping information from Amazon that the CD will arrive tomorrow afternoon. That means the autorip will be available when I get up tomorrow morning! Schweet! That wasn't such a bad wait.

Sweet.

This is my first time pre-ordering with Amazon actually. Does anyone in the UK know if I will be able to get my digital download at midnight UK time or if I'll have to wait until midnight in the US?

I asked them too but they weren't 100% clear. They said the download won't be available until Friday.

But it'll be on Spotify / Deezer at midnight so there is that.

Mastodon on Real-Life Tragedies That Inspired Harrowing New LP

 :tup

I also lost a parent to it and i'm glad the album doesn't explicitly spell out what it's about.

In the same way that Crack The Skye doesn't explicitly mention Brann's sister's suicide.

and Blood Mountain was a metaphor for making their first album on a major label and Leviathan was a metaphor for constant touring.

I'm on Clandestiny now.

Definitely a mix of Crack The Skye and Blood Mountain.  Has a good mix of "old" and "new" Mastodon. .

It's a very wide sounding album though like Crack The Skye - despite there being noticeably less going on...

I keep lifting my headphones to make sure they're plugged in as it's nearly 1am :p

Lovin the album ! Very happy with it !

Immediately enjoyable. Once More took a long time to sink in.

This is definitely a new Crack The Skye.

Overall a great album, just got done the 2nd listen. It's probably the best of the 2010's albums so far. Only complaint is that I think Clandestiny & Scorpion Breath should've been switched around.

Highlights: The entire sequence of tracks from Stormbreather to Andromeda
Lowlights: Sultans Curse, Scorpion Breath

Jaguar God is interesting structure-wise, but I wouldn't call it a classic or anything (though it does have some memorable parts).
Ancient Kingdom's chorus is unexpected, but amazing.
Word To The Wise probably would've made a better lead single than Sultan's Curse to be honest.
Roots Remain is the heaviest song here aside from maybe Jaguar God.

Also,
Holy shit that really fast Jaguar God riff - sounds like something off Train of Thought.  :metal :metal
2:14 "Straight is the path, leading to your salvation"  ;D

One more thing, I'm gonna drop this poll here, vote on it if  you want: https://strawpoll.me/12643869

The chorus on Word to the wise truly is eargasmic.  :hefdaddy

The first six songs are incredible, I can't remember the last time an album came out with a streak of six fantastic songs, starting with track one. The others are solid, average or growers, time will tell.
