Even when the album subject matter is so macabre - they don't take themselves seriously.

Been watching Shrek recently? That's what gets that song stuck in my head. I usually end up with Funky Town stuck in my head as well, it really has a great soundtrack  :heart

Emperor Of Sand has....leaked apparently.

I'm hoping that they bring the release date forward or stream the album on their website..

But i'm not going to download it illegally.

Yea, I can wait. I have never listened to an album that leaked early. I am really pumped for this and it's the most excited I've been for a Mastodon album in a long, long time but still, the wait will all be worth it  :tup

 :corn :corn :corn

All these making of's combined add up to like six times the length of the Hunter's one.

And Once More Round The Sun didn't even have one.

According to peeps what heard the album - it's both really catchy and really proggy too.

Like The Hunter mixed with Crack The Skye.

Bring it on. My two favourite Mastodon albums :D

I've pre-ordered the vinyl from Amazon. I always get albums from Amazon a day early but the estimated delivery date is after it's released...

If I don't get it on the day then at least I can hear it on Spotify on the day.

Couldn't resist. Listened to it... Jaguar God is AWESOME, could fit into Crack The Skye easily. The album is very melodic, with catchy riffs and choruses, without giving up the heaviness. Much more simple than Once More Round The Sun in terms of composition. But it's far from being a masterpiece. When it comes out, gotta buy my physical copy to complete my Mastodon collection  :metal

It'll have to be pretty damn good to beat songs like " The Sparrow " , " The Hunter " " Stargasm " , " Bedazzled Fingernails " etc..

Not sure why The Hunter gets a bit of a bad rep...Is it the pristine production ? It's not because it isn't heavy.

Blasteroid ? Spectrelight ? Black Tongue ?

It's not a concept album... But that was on purpose. I think it's a really fun album. Sounds great. The songs are all really strong. Yes even Creature Lives...

Amazing album for me. Possibly my fave.

The Hunter has to be the album I have tried the most times to like. Except for a few songs it does nothing for me.

Also, "pursue happiness with diligence" is fucking corny.

Outside of a few songs The Hunter just feels like a B-side album. There really isn't a flow to the album and some songs are in a major key which gives a strange vibe I just can't get into. They should've just trimmed it down to 4-5 songs and released an EP because I consider the majority of the songs throwaway.

Just wow.

I love every song on it. And the more upbeat songs just show that there's more to them than crazy drumming and screaming.

I like The Hunter, but it's definitely one of the lower tier Mastodon albums in my book.

Honestly I think Crack the Skye and Leviathan are the two albums that have the best pacing in their discography.
Beyond the limits of the mortal frame
To the farthest boundary of eternity
Where I, the Cosmic Sea
Watch the little ego floating in me.

The Hunter it's definitely not bad, but it doesn't have the awesome unique/progressivenes of the album before it nor does it really pull the more poppy style of as well as the album after it.

The Hunter is awesome

Indeed!

I also love, that they went with such a left field choice as a producer: Mike Elizondo. That really worked for them.

As much as i would have loved to hear a CTS part.2, i'm glad that they went in a different direction with the Hunter.

The Hunter was very good but there was some filler, and some of the major key tunes bother me slightly. They improved quite a bit with Once more round the sun, but I'm afraid the third part of the trilogy (so to speak) will be a slight drop in quality, the style is still the same judging from the singles and it might get old.

The Hunter is freaking great. It's right there with their top stuff for me. For me its probably their best mix of all their sound/styles so far.

Brann's drums sound incredible on The Hunter.

Steambreather is one of the best flowing Mastodon songs I've ever heard, every following part is more eargasmic than the previous.
Not 'Down To F***', but 'Dream Theater Forums' .
