Wait and see. Could just be for marketing purposes. We'll see. It is their best logo.

And artwork too. As awesome as the cover for OMRTS is, the artist who did the first 4 albums is a genius!

I do like when album covers have some continuity.

However I do adore the S/E cover of The Hunter...

And the cover of OMRTS is just insane.

Yea, I prefer that over the normal album cover. Artwork for OMAtS is just trippy and awesome, I have an A4 framing of it on my wall at home but I'd like a huge one of the whole piece.

Seriously though - cannot wait for this.

Gonna buy it on Vinyl and use Spotify / Amazon download for my digital copy for iPhone listening.

I might just buy new albums on Vinyl from now on. With Spotify and Amazon MP3 downloads - it's the best of both worlds.

Piss all over Slayer's pathetic album art any day.

Mastodon have yet to make a crap album. I don't think they will allow themselves to release an album like St. Anger.

I know financially they can't afford a flop album but still. They're one of those bands that every so often you go  :hefdaddy Thank God this band exists.

Amazing musicians, great down to earth guys and amazing album art.

I love all their artwork. It's not generic boring bog standard " we're a heavy band " artwork.

Metal bands shouldn't be afraid of primary colours :lol

Amen to that. There are only a handful (if that) of bands these days that I look at the artwork and really think "Wow, someone put some serious time, effort and love into that creative art", 90% of the time it's just boring or ordinary.

Baroness are definitely one of those bands  :hefdaddy

John Baizley has created some jaw dropping album covers for other bands as well as his own.

Definitely! One of the handful I was thinking of. I still haven't delved deep into their music but I've got a few favorites already and await when I have a day just to soak it in. One day...one day...

Well my personal preference would be the double album Green & Yellow, but I think I'm in the minority there  :loser:

And I missed Troy's video yesterday. He always seemed more serious than others but jibba-jabba bit was hilarious :lol
So hyped for this release. I might sound like a fanboy but they can't go wrong for me.

Just took a look at the tour page for Mastadon and they will be in my hometown of Nashville, TN in May.  The opening acts are Eagles of Death Metal and Russian Circles.  The concert will be a the original Grand Ole Opry House.  The sound is great in this venue, but the seats are basically unpadded church pews.

The wife asked if I wanted her to go with me and my answer was no.  She has gone to Rush with me, but she would not like Mastadon.

Just thought I would let folks now there is a tour in case the word has not gotten out.

I do like the last album but I don't think it continued the amazing run of albums from Leviathan through The Hunter.

There was just *something* off about it. It's certainly not a bad album. I think the production was a bit poor maybe.

But Brendan O Brien producing the new one ? Oh fuck yeah I have high hopes.

Wikipedia says that one of the songs on the new one is called 'Steambreather'. I hope that's the album title as well!

For me The Hunter is the weak link in their back catalogue. That may be mainly due to the fact that it was a change in sound and followed their best album (IMO) so I was initially let down. It's grown on me over the years but I don't think it has many standout songs, although it's all pretty solid.

I adore The Hunter. I actually like how poppy it is. I think the material is really strong and I LOVE the production.

It's got Dry Bone Valley, The Hunter, The Sparrow, Stargasm, Creature Lives, Bedazzled Fingernails.

All amazing songs in my opinion. I dunno it just felt effortless.

I enjoy The Hunter more than Blood Mountain. While I do like BM a lot, it gets too weird/trippy for me at times. Which I totally get, cuz it matches what's going on in the story.

It took me a long time to fully appreciate Blood Mountain as I was so blown away by Leviathan in 2004.

I don't think i'd be a fan now if they did Remission over and over. I rarely listen to it. I have to be in the right mood although I do love Crusher Destroyer and Mother Puncher.

I liked Leviathan when it came out, although it was way overhyped, but Blood Mountain was the first album I got on release. It's not their best but it's top 3 for me. I like the trippy side to it and it's pretty relentless, it was the album that cemented me as a fan and I'll always love it for that.

If you count The Call Of The Mastodon - ( p.s. the band themselves do ) - then their new album is their 8th...

That's an amazing track record. Eight albums and no duff album yet. No " St. Anger ".

If you compare their discography so far to Metallica - Their new album is their Reload chronologically.

What's everyone's favorite song from each album? Here's mine:

Crusher Destroyer
Hearts Alive
Sleeping Giant
The Last Baron
Stargasm
Tread Lightly
