Slightly unimpressed with 'Chimes'. I would've done more with the slow part at the intro and outro..

You totally should. Make your own Mastodon album, dude!  :metal

Oh my GOD I'm loving this (and I'm on the second track  :lol ). Motherload is so damn catchy, dat chorus has so many feels on me. It's just lathering me in feels. All over. Mm.

I will post how many buckets of man cream I have at the end.

ED: 10 buckets. Amazing album. Dem layers. I really need more time with it but I'm liking it more than The Hunter already. Also, I absolutely love, I guess it's Brent's (?) clean vocals, he sounds extremely remeniscent of Ozzy, I think; High Road especially. Also Brann's (again, ?) in Motherload is really givin me feels.

Just finished my first listen. Can't say how it compares to other albums but I'm enjoying it a lot.

Favorites so far: The Motherload, Chimes at Midnight, Feast Your Eyes, Ember City, Halloween

Also, any one else notice how similar the chorus of Tread Lightly is to All the Heavy Lifting?

Best thing about the band. They don't change enough that you love one album and hate another but they change enough that each album brings a new flavour.

This album is just fantastic. Everything that made The Hunter awesome with a flair of Crack the Skye and Blood Mountain at points too. The last song essentially just turns into a Neurosis song, too.

Fantastic stuff. Glad Brann got to sing more on this album, he has a great voice.

It's continuing to grow on me. At this point I can say I definitely like it better than The Hunter. It could have done without the ending to Aunt Lisa though

Funny, that's the only part of Aunt Lisa that really gets me goin'. Which is what I came here to post...Aunt Lisa and Tread Lightly are really the only two songs that I haven't gotten into yet. AL is a bit too meandering until that last WTF-left-field-moment (which is a very good thing to me) and TL is way too familiar for my liking without having any real standout solos or a hooking chorus. Other than that, this is a completely amazing trip of an album. I really love Ember City, and Brann's lines seem to be some of my favorite moments off the album; I also really like Asleep In The Deep and Feast Your Eyes.

This one will be a contender for one of my AOTY, but it won't take top spot.

I've heard The Motherload, Ember City and the title track since some folks posted them on Tumblr, but I haven't heard the whole album yet. How's Diamonds in the Witch House? I hear that one has a very Neurosis vibe about it.

I've not heard more than a song or two from Neurosis years ago, so I can't comment on that but I really enjoy Diamonds. It's a very fitting end for the kind of psychedelic, visceral vibe the album emits; it's definitely the darkest track on the album and as the title hints at, almost sounds cult-ish and is very brooding. It's not my least favorite and it's not my favorite, but it's a great ending.

After about three whole spins, these are my favorite parts of the album:
The entire songs:
- Thread Lightly (dat intro and chorus!)
- The Motherload (Brann, I love you!)
- High Road
- Aunt Lisa (how Brann and Brent are supposed to sing this live while playing is beyond me.. Well, hey ho lets fucking go! :p)
- Ember Road (riff!!)
- Halloween (the verses with Brent singing are catchy as hell)

All songs are really good, but the songs that I mentioned really stand out at the moment.
Diamonds is defenitely a grower!

The star of the album is defenitely Brann. You can tell he has been taking his vocal lessons seriously. And the parts he sings are the most catchy parts on the album!

I give the album 8,5 out of 10 right now. I have a feeling I will like it even more after a while.

Saw them at Bonnaroo this past weekend. On top form as always when I see them. I'm starting to think people expect Brent to put on a Devin Townsend level vocal performance or something, because I don't get why people complain about his live vocals, he sounded great. New songs were beastly live, and they played a bunch of Blood Mountain material, mmm mm mm.

So I heard the new album once last night.

Definitely more Rock than normal.

Hoping the crappy sound is because it was a 128kbps MP3

I'll be annoyed if the CD sounds awful after all this time making sonically brilliant albums.

However- the singles both sound fine so there is that.

Not listening again til the CD is out.

Good first impressions though.

Both my naughty copy and the stream sound the same to me and I think it sounds as good as The Hunter. Then again I'm no audiophile.

I think the Hunter was a bit sharper and brighter.

But i'll wait for the CD to judge properly.

Only 3 songs in so far. Quite catchy.
Orion....that's the one with a bunch of power chords and boringly harsh vocals, isn't it?
