As much as I dig this album, CTS was musical ecstasy.

This.  Kotowboy, CtS is exactly what they intended it to be: this big, sprawling prog epic.  The Hunter is pretty much the exact antithesis, and its still amazing.

God I love this band.

Also, call of the Mastodon is a compilation or old songs.  I tdon't think ists included as as studio album.

Hard to say this early, but I'm thinking TH > CTS.

Well, Brent considers it a full length release, so I include it in albums. :)

Picked up the new album yesterday.  The DVD was pretty pointless really and the making of was like a total of 5 minutes long with nothing to do with the actual recording of the album.

From what I've listened to so far it's killer.  I'm a bit let down that the CD/DVD version doesn't have the bonus tracks.  So I actually don't know where you can get them from.
Everyone else, except Wolfking is wrong.

Stargasm is seriously my favorite Mastodon song now. I absolutely love the chorus melody, it's insane.

This album rocks! I got it in the mail two days ago, and im sorry ADTOE..you've got serious competition!
What really strikes me about this album is that it's so catchy, yet still maintains that Mastodon-magic that got me into them. I was humming along to allmost every song at the second listen, and im still not skipping any tracks. They're all good!
Highlights: Blasteroid, Octopus Has No Friends, The Hunter, Creature Lives and Bedazzled Fingernails.

I WANNA DRINK SOME FUCKING BLOOOOD!!
I WANNA BREAK SOME FUCKING GLAAAAASS!!  :metal  :lol

Also - Pretty sure Blasteroids is the first Mastodon song with swearing in ?

I'll let you off this once, but don't turn into Limp Bizkit please

10/10 for this album and gotta love Brann talking about every song on the DVD :)

Listened to this album for the first time, I enjoyed it.
Have never really been a big Mastodon-fan, back in the days when I listened to a lot of metal, Leviathan and Blood Mountain really kicked my balls, but CtS (while still being a good album) never had the same effect, and as for how much this album will grow, it's hard to tell.

I enjoyed the first spin though, gonna give it a few more this week when I have time.

I just bought the CD this morning. It's pretty cool but it's not a masterpiece or anything.

With Mastodon, it's no longer about which album is better or worse...

AT this point it really is about proving once and for all that there really is no excuse for Korn.

Just got the special edition CD/DVD Digipak thing today. Very glad to have gotten ADToE, Heritage and this all in special edition form the day they each came out and without ever hearing a note of a single one of these albums except for three seconds of Curl of the Burl by accident when I was flipping through the music stations on DirecTV.

This is good. Way better initial reaction than Heritage.

Of course The Hunter is going to leave a better first impression than Heritage. With The Hunter, you can actually remember what happened after one listen, whereas with Heritage, you can't. It's not a quality thing - it's a difference in the nature of the two kinds of music.

Sorry. I'll try and stop being a Heritage apologist. :lol

I'd say this is their best work, at least in my opinion. Literally every song is memorable and it's just such a fun listen. I actually think they've gotten better with each subsequent album.

Heritage, holocaust. Two tri-syllabic h-words that no amount of apology can atone for.

Am I having a Migraine ? I'm reading the words but I can't understand what they say !  ???

Don't know what to tell you on that one but good lord is the packaging and liner notes exquisite for the special edition.

Got the leak a while ago, but bought the 2 CD edition today.

I'm pretty disappointed at the DVD. "The Making of the Hunter" is actually a 6 minute long video about hardly anything. The Track-by-track commentary is cool, though. I was hoping for a little more.

But all else aside, the music is awesome.

Not sure why I see a lot of people comparing Heritage and the Hunter.

The only reason I can think of is because they both start with the letter "H"?
