The vocals are a bit off key in places?? I wonder if that was the intention, stylistically or what..

Good clip though. Mastodon haven't let me down yet.

Dude...it's Mastodon.

Live i'd agree but not in the studio. They're usually good.

Mastodon have become one of my favorite bands as of late. The vocals used to be the sole reason I disliked them. I've warmed up to them now, but I'll still be the first person to tell you that they're not very good.

Have I mentioned in this thread that I met Brent Hinds over the weekend?  It was pretty boss.  He was a cool guy, telling stories about how much pot the guys in Deftones smoked and how they had to escape over the Canadian border once or twice.  I told him how awesome Crack the Skye is and how excited I am for the Hunter.

Speaking of which, I really really want The Hunter NOW.

Where did you meet him? Was it a Deftones concert or was it just a random story?  :lol

I've been getting into the them recently. They all seem like nice guys. I question their live performances though, they sound drunk, more than anything sometimes.

*snip*

Where did you meet him? Was it a Deftones concert or was it just a random story?  :lol

I was at Dragon*Con, a scifi/fantasy nerd convention in Atlanta for Labor Day weekend.  On Friday, I was walking out of one of the exhibition halls where they were selling a bunch of stuff and saw a tattooed, bearded guy talking to someone outside of some band's booth.  I thought to myself "that kinda looks like Brent from Mastodon, and they're from Atlanta, and he's a Black Lagoon fan, so that might actually be him."  I got a quick glance of the right side of his face to look for that face tattoo and went into a fanboy coma when my suspicions were confirmed.  I just sort of hung around and jumped into the conversation for a bit.  When the first guy walked back to his booth, I introduced myself, told him what a big fan I was, got a picture with him, and wished him a happy Con.  He was a very nice guy, though he mentioned that he actually hated Dethklok's music, which I though was kind of odd. :lol

After that I kept an eye out for Bill, since he's such a Star Wars fan, but didn't see him around.  Oh well.

I don't know what's funnier. The fact that you'd be wearing a scarf like that when meeting such a bonafide metal icon or that Brent didn't ask you how the Chinese girl bassist is doing these days.

He actually complimented me on the scarf, calling it "nice cape"  :lol  He also noticed the Dream Theater shirt but didn't really say anything about them.  Something like "you've got your Dream Theater shirt and everything."

Still not sure what to think of the new material. It certainly has a killer groove if you're into that sort of thing, but the overall songwriting feels like a regression from their last few albums. I'll hold final judgements until I hear the whole thing, but so far I'm not very impressed.

Absolutely agree! I've allways thought Mastodon and Gojira had names that fitted their music so well!

Song samples!

Sounds amazing. Despite the rumours of Dave Grohl NOT playing on the album, does anything think the scream at the beginning of the Blasteroids clip sounds a lot like him; or at least one of the voices?
