OK so I (finally) heard this album. I'd been kind of putting it off, since I figured I wouldn't care for it too much without the harsh vocals.

Much to my surprise, though, I don't really miss them at all. Matt's cleans are great and pretty diverse, and the songwriting is really fantastic. This is probably tied with In Waves right now as my favorite Trivium album.

Hmm, didn't like the new one too much, wasn't a fan of the all clean vocals. Favorite is either In Waves or Ascendancy.

I really enjoy Rise Above The Tides. I enjoy it a LOT more than Vengeance Falls - which is also great mind.

I wasn't the biggest fan of Silence in the Snow, but it had a few killer tracks, like The Ghost That's Haunting You and Beneath the Sun (dat chorus!). After having given it ample time to settle, these are what my rankings would be:

1. Shogun (9.75/10)

2. Ascendancy (9.00/10)
3. In Waves (8.75/10)

4. Ember to Inferno (8.00/10)
5. Silence in the Snow (7.75/10)

6. Vengeance Falls (5.75/10)

7. The Crusade (3.50/10)

I'm an old school Trivium fan at heart with Ascendancy being my fav album, but Silence is a fabulous record, I love it.

My top 2 are easily Ascendancy and Shogun  :metal :metal :metal

I actually like The Crusade and Ember to Inferno quite a lot. I was never really a fan of In Waves, like at all!! But then I heard Vengeance Falls (once) and I hated the fact the Matt sounded like the guy from Disturbed (I know he produced the album but still) and I'm REALLY not a fan of Disturbed!! I've never even revisited VF, it made me appreciate In Waves a lot more though  :lol

When Silence in the Snow came out I was a bit reluctant to listen, I gave one of the singles a go and quite liked it. I saw it got slated by some because of the clean vocal approach. I admit that I never got around to listening to the album though. I may have to rectify that.

Just finishing my first listen through of Silence in the Snow. I really like it from first impressions. I personally don't mind Matt's clean vocals, I do love his growls but they are not the deal breaker for me. It's all about the music and I like it so far. It's nothing ground breaking but I enjoyed it and will definitely be giving it plenty more listens to be able to rank it against the rest.

I'm just SSSSOOOOOOO glad he's dropped those Disturbed style vocals that he had on Vengeance Falls  :lol

Guess they haven't destroyed any chance of me being in to them ever again

Been spinning In Waves and Vengeance Falls a lot this week.  Two really good albums.  Caustic Are the Ties That Bind is such a perfect showcase for the different styles and moods that best epitomize this band's style.  But there are lots of other good songs there was well.  *appreciates*

I really like In Waves too, and Vengeance Falls is okay (though not as good as In Waves), but in my opinion both albums pale against the greatness of Shogun. Easily the bands high-water mark and the title track is a beast of a track that I find unlikely that they will ever top.

Kirisute Gomen is great.

I love that one part where it's an alt picked single string riff over half time drums.

And " ANNIHILAAAAATE ! " < - - Is that Down From the Sky ? That part is amazing.

I was never a huge fan of In Waves. It's not a bad album but far from their best. Shogun is just brilliant though. The title track is just perfect and one of the only songs of theirs that I never tire of hearing. I used to listen to them a lot back in the day.

I'm still really enjoying Silence in the Snow as well. Pretty sweet album. Been a long time since I last saw them live, would like to see them again soon.

So TRIVIUM are drummer-less *AGAIN*...

Heafy is now saying that Trivium are a 3-piece and drummers will come and go ?

Wouldn't you want a permanent drummer ?

You would think so. They just seem to have bad luck with drummers so I'm not sure it would matter if they were a hired-gun or a full-timer.

I can't stand when bands play the temporary member game. Find the right person and keep him/her.

Especially since the drummer is such a big part of their sound.  Travis was awesome and his drumming on the older stuff added so much IMO.  Who knows, the right person might come along.

I totally agree with this. His drumming on Shogun, in particular, was really good. It had something special about it that they haven't been able to recreate since, IMO.

Totally agree.  Even Ascendancy had great drumming for the more simple style of songs.

So Trivium have released a new single:

The Sin and the Sentence

I'm digging it more than first impressions on any of their albums post Shogun. Definitely getting the album as I thought Silence in the Snow was pretty good and hoping they are keeping on the same trajectory  :metal

Also it's good see Matt pulling this face, if you know what I mean  :lol

Wow, what a great song.  This band keeps evolving so nicely.  And it's so good to hear some growls back in, thought they might have been gone for good.  No mention of an album though so I hope something is in the works, great stuff.

Good stuff.  Drumming is pretty good.  All in all, the first single is a great start.

On another note, I found this through the Youtube rummages.  Matt Heafy paying tribute to Chester Bennington playing One More Light acoustically.  Good stuff.

Jesus, I don't know what to think about this one.  I thought from the first song they were going back to more of a Shogun style, but this is a pure definition of selling out for these guys.

Hmmm, yeah I'd tend to agree, I definitely like the first track released more than this.
