HUGE Trivium fan here.  I've actually been on a Trivium binge since last night.  Just had the urge after I heard In Waves.  :tup

Great song.  I couldn't ask for anything more.  I like how they have gone back to their roots a bit more, just fantastic, really looking forward to the album.

I've been a fan boy since Ascendancy came out, and to this day I would put that in my top 15 albums of all time.  It just holds a really special place with me.  I also don't understand why they get pissed on so much.

I would probably agree with your rankings, with Ascendancy easily being far out in front.  I spun Shogun for the first time in a while last night and forgot how excellent it was, so I'd rank that second.  Crusade and Ember are close for me, but I'd probably just put Crusade in front, just because of its variety.

Love these guys. I've been a fan since The Crusade came out, but I thought Shogun was their best album by far. The title track is just awesome.

Really cool track! Thanks for posting, I admit I wasn't really catching up to the news on Trivium, this sparked my interest once again.

It's a crime that Blinding Tears Will Break the Skies didn't make it onto Ascendency. If it did, it would have easily been the best song on the album. I bought the special edition of the album just for that.

I purchased the special edition of Ascendancy also which had the DVD.  But the bonus track on mine is Washing Away Me in the Tides (which is fucking great too).  Blinding Tears is on my special edition of Ember.  And yes, a fucking amazing song.  :metal

New song is great. I've loved these since Ascendancy came out.

Top 5. I added their demo because I think it sounds better than ETI.

1. Shogun
2. Ascendancy
3. Trivium (demo)
4. The Crusade
5. Ember to Inferno

They started sucking when they dropped the death growls. But the album with Pull Harder on the Strings of Your Martyr was fucking amazing.

I really appriciate Matt's varied vocal styles on Shogun.  You had a mix of his Crusade harsh/clean singing, then you had his Ascendancy growls, then his excellent clean singing.

But you also had stuff like Insurrection.  Matt's vocals in that middle bit is incredible.  Then you had Callisto, with that amazing vox in the pre chours.

I also don't know why Upon the Shores wasn't included on the album, that is one of my favs.  Love Matt's Deiced/Cannibal Corpse style vocals in that too, amazing.

A few years ago when I listened more to metal, these guys were in my top5 bands easily.
Seen them live 3 or 4 times, even won a contest in a magazine so I got to meet them, and I actually have a picture of me, a friend and the band, which is pretty cool I guess.
Shogun was probably my favorite, and the title-track was just very unique for the band and quickly became a favorite, and would be cool to see them do something like that again. :)

Hard to say, but rankings would look something like this:

1. Shogun
2. Ascendancy
3. Ember to Inferno
4. The Crusade

I fell in love with them when Ascendancy came out, I remember calling them the future of metal, but, as one of the biggest Metallica fans in the world, I thought The Crusade was a rip-off piece of garbage. But Shogun was indeed a better recovery from that disc, and here's to the upcoming album!

Just when I thought I was one of the only Trivium fans on DTF...

I totally love their experimentation and eclectic stuff on Shogun, I'm not sure what to expect from the next album since Matt said there's gonna be less long songs and experimentation. It'll probably be like Ascendancy, and I totally love that album too.

By the way, do you guys think the little acoustic piece they had during one of their videos will be included on the album? It sounds killer

Been a fan since Ascendancy, I was kinda bummed out when Travis left the band (that dude is an insane drummer!). Shogun is, by far, their best album.

1. Shogun
2. Ascendancy
3. The Crusade

4. Ember to Inferno

EDIT: That new song is quite average.

Travis was a terribly inconsistent drummer, the replacement is far better.

He consistently fucked up the Pull Harder... intro, so Heafy would have to scream "THIS IS PULL HARDER" again.

Yeah, but last time I saw them was on the Shogun-tour, and I know Travis did the drumming back then.
So must have been right before he left.

Love a bit o' Trivium every now and again. Ascendancy's the best, Shogun second, The Crusade and Ember both have their moments but are, for the most part, fucking awful.

Like the two new tracks though (the other being Shattering the Skies)

Oh gawd.  I haven't listened to this band in years.

I remember them being much stronger then their peers in some aspects, though.  Shogun was good, as I remember.  Probably their best.

Oh man I love Trivium too. I've been a fan since the release of Ascendancy and have been lucky enough to see them live 3 times (once supported by Gojira  :metal) Ascendancy is definately my favourite album by them, it's just the non-stop brutality and intensity of basically every track which stops me getting bored of it. When I heard they were going to stop doing harsh vocals on The Crusade, at the time I was worried they were going the way of Sevenfold*, but I actually really like that album too. It's got great instrumentation and I don't mind his clean vocals either. Could live without 'The Anthem' though, and I don't much care for the newest record either.

1) Ascendancy
2) Ember to INferno
3) The Crusade

4) Shogun

*To clarify, I now love the 'new' A7X sound, but when City of Evil first came out it took me a loooong time to adjust to the new sound, whilst The Crusade I enjoyed straight away.

You gotta understand that Ascendancy was one of the albums I listened to as I was just getting into metal, and I loved it and played it over and over again. Same with Ember, which I picked up shortly afterwards. When The Crusade came out I was still riding the wave from the first two albums, and although it was different it still had that Trivium energy that I enjoyed so much from the first records. By the time Shogun had come out I had discovered so much new music and so many more bands, and I didn't play it over and over as i had with the other albums. Maybe that's because I was listening to so much other music that I didn't have the time, or maybe it's because the songs just didn't blow me away any more, as those on the earlier albums had done.

Either way, Shogan is the only Trivium album I don't 'know' from back to front, thus it is my least favourite. Still good, but if i had to throw on a Trivium record it certainly wouldn't be that one. I don't think it has the same vibe as their other albums. Personally.

I was mostly speaking from what he recorded, I've barely heard any live Trivium.

This, pretty much.  I don't really understand why The Crusade was branded as "generic" or any of the other terms that get thrown at it.  Ascendancy is alright, but after a while the whole br00tal verses/melodic metalcore chorus formula gets really tiring.  I listened to Shogun again for the first time since it came out and it is still very well done for what it's worth.  Insurrection is a fucking killer indeed   :metal

Anyway, yeah, they were my favorite band a while back, and while I don't listen to them much anymore, I still think that they kick the ass of all of their peers in their kind of music.  The songs are fun as shit to play on guitar, too.

Oh yeah,
Shogun
The Crusade
Ascendancy

lol
