Their last few albums have been a mixed bag for me. I loved Doomsday Machine, but then Rise of the Tyrant is my least favourite by them (mainly because of the awful mix.) But then I thought they did a great job with The Root of all Evil, really did those old songs justice. I've heard the first single from this album, and it didn't blow me away which is a shame, as the singles are normally some of the best tracks from their albums, but I'll be picking this up anyway  :tup

i kinda lost interest with Rise of the Tyrant. feel like ive only listened to these guys a combined 4 hours in the past 4 years.

is this their first album since RotT? (other than that rerecording-of-older-songs album)

The new single is pretty good, but definitely nothing new.  Doomsday was excellent, and I really enjoyed Tyrant, a lot of great melodies on that one, I never understood the criticism.  I'm not really big into them anymore but I will pick this up no doubt, the Amott brothers rip, Chris in particular.

Listened to it today, it's a pretty good disc, nothing earth-shattering. I did think it was too long, 16 tracks is a bit much considering they're not really doing anything groundbreaking, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Needs another listen I think. I'll be seeing them at Sonisphere and I'm looking forward to seeing how the new tracks come across live, as when Sigz and I saw them a few months ago even the songs from Rise of the Tyrant (which I don't really like) were injected with more power and were really great

i had a dream a couple nights back that marco minnemann was the new arch enemy drummer, and i watched a video of him in the studio talking bout the album they were working on, mixed in with some music from said album. and i was REALLY digging it - very experimental and proggy with a bunch of stuff one wouldnt expect outta the A.E. camp.

Early verdict- better than Doomsday and Tyrant. Angela sounds great on a few tracks like Bloodstained Cross. Overall very pleased with it. :metal

Good choice on the new vocalist, although the song was unfortunately just as generic as the last album. The style is all there, and everything sounds great, but they haven't written anything distinctive in years now. I'll give the whole album a chance because I'm a fan, but I have low expectations after hearing this. I was hoping they'd change it up at least a little.

I'm not familiar with Arch Enemy at all so forgive me for a potentially dumb comment but I found the vocal almost comical to watch on that video - would there seriously be 5% of her natural voice left after whatever's happened to it in the studio??  Bad lip sync didn't help but it didn't look even vaguely real to me.  I could be wrong - it did happen once  ;D

Aside from that I thought the song was pretty decent -not my style really but I thought the music was good anyway.

The last album was really disappointing.  A shame cause I love Rise of the Tyrant.  It seems Amott has tried intentionally to go back to a more Anthems and Doomsday style with the arrangements and melodies in this song, but it still sounds like what they have been doing.  I do like this more than most of what the last albums delivered though.

This sounds pretty much identical to the last album to me, although I only bothered to listen to that once or twice. Very meh.
Rise of the Tyrant and Doomsday Machine both had a mix of great and average tracks for me, and Wages of Sin and Anthems of Rebellion are both excellent.

I don't find this new song or the last album bad in any way, because it's still the same style I love hearing from them, but maybe that's the problem. They've written so many great songs using that formula, that I think it's getting harder to write a new one that stands out as distinctive among those.
They've still got the fast riffs, the guitar melodies/harmonies, growls I enjoy, but it doesn't make me want to headbang and scream like a song such as We Will Rise or I Will Live Again does.

New album is pretty beast! Had a run through today, really liked War Eternal, As The Pages Burn, Avalanche and the awesome version of Mike Oldfields Shadow Of A Wall.

Will definitly listen some more.

Gave it one listen, and it was what I expected. I like the title track, but the rest of the album blurs into the same saminess as the last album did. I just tuned out by the end of it.
It's a shame, because the production on these last two albums has been perfect, and I have no problem with Alissa on vocals either. Hopefully on the next album they try something a little bit different.

I picked it up on the weekend and have had one listen through.  It is pretty solid and some great tunes, but as Blob said it does all blur a little like the last one.  It's definitely better than Khaos Legions though I think.  Mind you it's only one listen.

Has anyone else picked up As the Stages Burn?

War Etermal (Live at Wacken) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5etfIwlRbg

I flipped through the DVD last night - I've been craving a live album with Alissa since she joined the band 3 years ago.  It's their headline set from last year's Wacken.  Killer stage setup, great sound/video, Jeff Loomis, and.....Alissa kills it, and she looks awesome in those stage outfits as well.  :hefdaddy

I'm not too interested in live albums, so I probably won't get it. Alissa is a great front-person, so I'm sure it will be cool, but from what I've heard in clips, she doesn't quite have the growly power of Gossow.
I'm still surprised that with how long they've been touring, and they haven't swung by Oz yet. They've come here the last few tours, and I'd definitely see them again.
