Okay, I'll be in NYC Saturday and Sunday and looking to be the best tourist I can be. I've been to the city so many times but I've pretty much only seen the inside of music venues and a few bars. I want you to suggest some tourist spots, museums, and anything else that I might find interesting.

Note that on Saturday I'll have to end up at Broadway around 6:30 for a show I'm seeing. Also keep in mind how I will get around the city with your suggestions, will I be taking a bus trip or using the subway? What is practical to see in one day?

Edit: If I want to do a lot I guess I'll actually be in the city most of the day Monday as well before the Morse show. Also Saturday and Sunday I'll be arrive by bus, and Monday I'll be coming in via the LIRR to Penn Station.

Definitely check out the Metropolitan museum of art if you are into art, it's one of the better museums in the world, and they have a tremendous variety of stuff from Ancient Greeks and Egyptians all the way through Modern Art (and even a musical instruments section!) It's all the way up north along the Eastern side of central park, so it might be a bit out of the way for you if you want to stay in the times square area, but it's deff worth the 2 dollar bus fee (and i think its like 7-10 dollars to get in the museum)

And if you're tight on cash you can pay whatever you want at the Met. Those entrance fees are "Suggested Donations."

Yea, although they definitely hound you for the "Suggested Donation" (or at least with me they did a few months ago when I was there last)

I went with this girl my sophomore year of college and she paid 50 cents for the both of us. I was so uncomfortable/embarrassed whatever I stared at my feet during the entire transaction

Well one time we went with our entire Symposium of Love class and my professor payed two dollars for the entire group (like 30 people between the 2 sections) hahaha

Fair enough. Okay guys, I know what I'm doing Saturday, Sunday, and most of Monday, but between having lots of out of wedlock sex and seeing Neal Morse sing about Jesus I plan to spend at least 1 hour seeing some of the greatest phallic objects NYC has to offer.

Someone told me you can see the "Great Phallus of Mike" located in Worcester, MA all the way from Times Square if it's a clear night.

Also, find the most interesting restaurant you can find. I'm still pissed at my friend Josh for vetoing the Pakistani restaurant.

9th Ave, between about 46th and 55th is a great place to find good, interesting food, and has a fairly low concentration of tourists.

Make your way to 23rd st with ace train, once there, walk west till you hit the hudson river. On 21st st where you will see the stairs to the highline park. Walk and enjoy it until you get to the 16th st exit, take that, walk one block south where you will find the entrance to the chelsea market, go in look around, I like to get fresh sushi from the fish market then coffee from the 9th ave shop. After that, exit the same way and cross the highway to the water side, walk down to battery park for wtc views, city hall, south street seaport, statue of liberty views all within a mile. That should be a fun day of history. Check out trinity church and wall street plaza for a ton of usa history.

YES. Those guys came down to Furman and our improv troupe opened for them. They are some of the funniest guys I've ever seen!

MET MUSEUM MET MUSEUM MET MUSEUM

best pizza: Angelo's on 57th between 7th and Broadway
best mexican food: Chavella's in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn
fantastic italian (cheap as hell): Noodle Pooding in Brooklyn Heights (like 5 minutes outside of Manhattan)

note that is very worth it to GET THE FUCK OUT OF OF MANHATTAN check out some killer food in Brooklyn, not to mention Prospect Park is a far better place than Central Park.

Battery Park is also really nice on a beautiful day -- if you can get out on the water on one of those floaty things (boat..?) that is always good. also, zerogravity mention South Street Seaport, which is close by and has some cool big boats.

The Empire State Building observation deck is very cool too.

oh and most importantly:

GO TO WHOLE FOODS ON BOWERY.
best beer selection in the city by a long shot.

I think I have my Saturday planned out. Zep had suggested the museum of natural history and that looked really cool to me. So I think I'll check that out and then walk through Central Park on my way down to The Book of Mormon which is in a theater a few blocks south of Central Park.

Sunday I'll probably stop at that Upright Citizens Brigade Theater as the last thing I do before heading off to Long Island for the night.

On topic, it's been a while since I've been there, but the museum of natural history always stood out in my mind, and definatly have a pastrami sandwich and cheesecake at The Carnegie Deli.

Okay, so here's the plan.

Thursday: Bus into city around 6pm, go to Dredg show.
Friday: Bus into city around 6pm, go to Blackfield show.

Those are the boring days, tourism wise.

Saturday: Bus in whenever, hop a subway to the American Museum of Natural History. Stay there until it closes at 5:30 and then walk south through central park and eventually end up at the Theater where I'll be seeing the Book of Mormon at 8:00pm.

Sunday: Going to be doing a LOT of walking. Basically coming into Port Authority and walking the route South as Zero suggested, visiting a lot of parks, ground zero, wall street, city hall, Federal Hall national memorial, and eventually ending up at the Upright Citizen's Brigade theater for the 5:30 show. After I'll be taking the LIRR off to see ZepDT.

Monday: Train back into the city, take the subway north of the Natural History Museum and work my way south-east across central park until I come to the Met. I've never been much for art but I figure it's worth stopping in and checking out considering if I don't like it I just won't pay. Then it's a walk or sub ride down to The Blender Theater to see Neal Morse before heading back to Jersey to get back in my car and drive home so I can get a few hours of sleep before my class on Tuesday.

Even if you're not big on art, there's plenty to see at The Met. The Egyptian wing is certainly worth checking out, and I really dug the ancient armor and weapons section. Plus the facility itself is very nice. I'm not an art guy either, but I really dug the place.
