Went from Vista to Windows 7 and....

It's really awesome.
Now that Obama has closed Gitmo, when will he turn his attention to the abuses and torturing of the onions that are used to make the angry whopper?

I've never really had a problem with Vista. I still do need to upgrade 7 though.

I'm still using Windows XP, since I haven't any problems with it (besides the lack of visual appeal :P).

Depends on when you installed it. The problem with Vista was that on introduction it wasn't ready for prime-time yet. Lots if bugs, and a lot of drivers hadn't been switched over to the new WDM framework yet, or not tested enough.
By the time Windows 7 came out,  Vista was decent enough. But of course the damage to the reputation was done at that point.

I like Vista a lot. I even like User Account Control in Vista. It teaches stupid people to fear and second-guess every move they make on their computers, and it teaches the smart people who disable it exactly who the stupid people are.

Yeah, I never had a problem with Vista, either.  It always ran perfectly for me.  The only reason why I switched to Windows 7 is because someone I know had a three-pack of upgrades for W7 and asked me if I wanted one.  I did some research on the differences between Vista and W7 and found that 7 doesn't hog as much resources as Vista.  So, I went for it and, once I started recording music in Sonar Home Studio 6XL, I was amazed.  With Vista, my projects would be using 40-60% of the computer's resources, but Windows 7 barely breaks 25%.  That was the biggest difference for me.

This. Also, global laziness, I would say that UAC is a million times better in 7.

Vista was as terrible as Windows millenium was.
Yet ME was just fine.  I could trim and tweak the system and leave myself with a very solid OS tuned the way I wanted.  It was the last Windows I ever had regularly installed on my computers, and I had continued to use it without problems all the way into 2006.  It was the last Windows OS I liked.

I've never encountered a truly unusable OS from Microsoft. A few small nuisances here and there but nothing I couldn't handle. When I see people complain about any problems they've had it's usually something easily avoidable/fixable and much ado about nothing. I've come to find that most people that blurt out "Vista sucks" have absolutely no idea why they think it sucks when actually questioned about it.

I don't know the difference, but the new Microsoft Office is terrible.
"All great works are prepared in the desert, including the redemption of the world. The precursors, the followers, the Master Himself, all obeyed or have to obey one and the same law. Prophets, apostles, preachers, martyrs, pioneers of knowledge, inspired artists in every art, ordinary men and the Man-God, all pay tribute to loneliness, to the life of silence, to the night." - A. As usual, you have no idea what you're talking about.

It's a lot more user friendly than the previous iterations of Office. New users can pick it up a lot quicker than they could in previous iterations.

UI-wise. Sure, if you've never used any of their products before you might learn it faster than older versions, but if you had used a previous version you found yourself having to relearn all the things you know.

True but I found it pretty easy to learn where everything is. Then again, I was involved in the rollout of Office 2007 to a building of 400 people and two oil rigs so I guess I kind of had to pick it up quickly :lol

I hate how all the new Windows stuff is just this big ugly mess of buttons at the top of the screen instead of a menu. This is especially obvious in mail clients. One place Apple has it right is that you can always count on that top menu  :lol

I agree with that.  ^

The new e-mail program in Windows 7 is actually the only thing I don't like just for that reason.  I think it's called Windows Live Mail or something like that.  It looks awful.

I have never in my life used Outlook. I tried but it didn't make sense. I guess people who had AOL is used to using that kind of Mail system.

What they really fucked up in Windows 7 is the searching of folders. A nightmare.

I've only used Windows 7 once or twice when borrowing a friend's computer, what's the issue with searching folders?

Well, for one thing, the results come in this special table format, where, if the path names are long, you can't resize the column. So, you're stuck trying to find the folder a certain file is in by hovering long enough over it and try to memorize the location.
Not so much for searching, but the fact that Windows 7 decides for me how to display folders with media in it, is super-annoying. I deal a lot with waveforms at work, and I care 10 times more about the size and the creation date of the file than I care about the supposed artist or the album name (neither of which even exists).
In XP you could force that shit to "details" view, and there was no automatic displaying from there on.

You can still do that Rumborak. Its in the folder options.
