Microsoft Buys Skype
« on: May 11, 2011, 07:20:04 AM »
For a sweet $8.5 Billion deal.

Do you think this maneuver will resuscitate Microsoft? (I know it's not dead, but the whole Apple displacing Google as the most valuable brand and Microsoft going into the oblivion)

They also acquired Nokia. Will the next WP7(8) will do what the iPhone (and iPad) did to Apple?

I just hope they don't change a thing with Skype, probably my favorite chat apps ever.

pretty shitty, i don't trust microsoft to begin with. i am going to have to look into other alternatives. google talk leaked with video recently, so that should replace skype handily.

Microsoft isn't going to die anytime soon.  If they ruin Skype we can use Google Talk like ZGF mentioned.

This is pretty much what everyone thinks of Skype and yet they lose a lot of money.

Not sure what I think of this really. I would like to be able to click once and be Skyping with one of my facebook friends; I guess that's still possible that they would do that but doubtful.

If this means they're bringing Skype to the Xbox I'm all for it.

Microsoft isn't going anywhere. Apple were way out of the public eye for a long time while MS did their thing. Now Apple's just had a brainwave to exploit the new generation of gadget geeks, and Microsoft is a little less famous. There's no reason this shouldn't turn around if Microsoft puts out something amazing.

I still think Windows is a zillion times better than OSX, and I don't care much for Apple at all. I am just going to await their return.  :hefdaddy :hefdaddy

I think no to all of those questions. Microsoft is trying to play catch up with apple and google.

I think the correct word in that case is "popular".

Microsoft own 90% of the home computer market. They aren't going anywhere.

Even in tablets and mp3 players (which the majority of people probably think are called iPods)?
