SOOO, Here are the results!!!
I've switched to scoring on a scale from 0-15 instead of 0-10 because I have 10 contenders... I think it would be most fair if I didn't stick to a fixed score table.
First place: zxlkho
Bloodstream by Stateless
Of all the submissions, this was the first one I heard and I can say I was blown away! Such an amazing track. I love the intro, I love the drum beat, I love the singer’s voice, I love everything about it. “I think I might’ve inhaled you”, great lyric! I only have a little of trip-hop in my library but I really like it. This was a great impulse to get more of the genre, which I certainly will, starting with this band.
12 points.Second place: Marvellous G
I Only Know (What I Know Now) by James Blake
This track is amazing! Instead of being full of catching melodies, glorious harmonies and such, this track sounds like music stripped down to it’s essence... It’s so simple. I’d heard some James Blake on the radio recently as he’s coming to one of the biggest festivals in Belgium in the summer, and now I’m really thrilled to see him!! When the roulette is over I’m definitely going to grab more of his stuff. I realize this is probably one of the more “out-there” works he’s done, but I’m excited!
11 points.Third place: Jamesman
Hold Your Breath Down by Future of Forestry
This is great! The refrain has been stuck in my head ever since I heard it. But there’s so much more to this song! I love that it buids up slow and gains pace, it really fits the song. Also, I love the synth sound in the beginning which was really a pretty weird instrument. I couldn’t believe it was just the three of them, they are very talented! Great pick.
10 points.Fourth place: sonatafanica
Heavy Eyes by The Depreciation Guild
This is the kind of music I really like! However I couldn’t help but feel it was a little shallow. I love shoegaze because it feels so deep and heavy-layered which is less so here. Don’t get me wrong, it was great! It just feels a little unreal with the chiptune sounds and the drumcomputer. Also, I kind of feel like the there could have been way more emotion in the song. But I’ll definitely get more of this band!
9 points.Fifth place: Quadrochosis
Sky Blue by Peter Gabriel
Like you said it didn’t really do much on first listen... But I’ve come around now! Great piece! I can’t help but think of African savannas when I listen to this song... Which is a great thing to think about when it’s 25° outside here in Belgium.. If only it’s be called “Sky Red” or so, then it would have been perfect, as I picture the savanns at sunset!
8 Points.Fifth place: TheVoxyn
Cecilia by Thomas Dybdahl
When I heard the beginning I kind of was like hrmmm I really don’t like his voice... But then the pace kicked in at around 0:25 and I immediately loved his voice! Great singer, and I love the rythm here. The thing is, in songs like these the lyrics are very important to me, and I couldn’t rally relate to them here. That’s why I ranked it only sixth, even though I really liked it.
8 Points.Seventh place: Gorille
Providence by Ulver
I didn’t really like this song on first listen, the atmosphere is really dark and the ending creeped me out. But after a few more listens I’ve gotten a Godspeed You! Black Emperor vibe from some of the parts of this song which I really like! It just strikes me as not having the right atmosphere for springtime... But I’ll definitely come back to this next winter, I promise!
7 Points.Eighth place: Nic35
Wille Zum Untergang by The Ocean
To be honest, I really only like the intro very much. The rest was all right, but way too much drums stuff going on. Normally I’d be into that but I couldn’t help but feel it was really forced in this case. This song would have ranked a LOT higher if it wasn’t for all the drumming, I just couldn’t get myself to like that.
6 Points.Eighth place: dtismajesty
Knight Of Noir by Susanne Sundfřr
Like you said, she does have a great voice. But I feel like it’s used wrongly in pieces like these. At least for my taste. I can definitely imagine this being someone’s all-time favourite song because of the voice and the atmosphere. Also the backing vocals were completely superfluous for me.
6 Points.Tenth place: dethklok09
Spirit Dancers by Hilary Stagg
I’m sorry that you finished last, but I just really didn’t like your song. It sounds so cheesy, especially on the video with those images you sent me. It sounds like something that would be played at a spa or something... While relaxing, it doesn’t move me at all. Again, I’m sorry, but I just didn’t like it. I'm sure you'll do better next time!

Alright guys! Great submission so far, let's see how you do in Round 2!!!
Round 2: Short songs.
I really like short songs, so send me a short song that you really like. Can be any genre! Short would be 2:30-3 minutes tops! Shorter is okay of course, 2:00-2:30 would be ideal but I'm not going to be strict here.
Good luck!
