The part in the DVD where JM says that he had to just "speak his mind"...
I wonder what the hell he said. I would love to hear that.

Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

I think if we heard it, uncensored, our minds would explode. It's best kept a secret among the band members and those who were there that day...

I thought you guys might get a kick of this:

Yea that's awesome and btw you gotta hand it to Jeff Waters when it come to riffing, some of the riffs he comes up with are just killer!

Just gotta love that guy!  :D

He's so humble and that's actually a great way to practice your single stroke speed by shifting the tempo in rythmic values. I used to do that in school alot but not with focus on speed though.

Of course Mike Portnoy will remains forever in our hearts. :hefdaddy

But for the band I think it was the best thing to do.
For me "BC&SL" is the very first bad album from DT, I couldn't stand to listen the "AA" lyrics of Mike again and again (), and "The shattered fortress" - nothing more than a horrible medley - was the song which made me realise he was gone too far, and that he had lost a big part of his inspiration.

And when I remember he said "I need a long break", and now he has many ongoing projects...sorry but something was wrong.
Perhaps Mike himself was a little lost and confused...

Mangini brings a welcomed freshness in the band.

I enjoy the fact that with MM, the band functions more as a unit and a true "band."

With MP, it was starting to feel like "Mike Portnoy and the Dream Theaters"

Granted, both drummers are amazing, but Mike Mangini has this attitude of humility all the while proceeding to blow our minds with drumming abilities!  :metal

yet again....[ purely my opinion ]...But I really cannot listen to MM soloing. It's all technique. I love solos where it's some technique but mostly big fat grooves .

I love MM as a person and when he's playing with DT but his solos do absolutely nothing for me on any level.

I'm agree with you, he's not Benny Greb or Johnny Rabb or Jojo Mayer type drummer who really lean their drumming aspect into groovy drumming. Some people call it boring, well, we can't blame that opinion though ;D
But imagine if Mike really putting a samba groove on a DT song, and JM plays maracas, and JLB wearing sombrero hat while singing on the stage....who knows ?  :lol

I somehow knew that Mangini would get the job when I found out he was one of the 7 candidates.  I'm glad he did.

I agree.  It was starting to feel like the MP show with special guest DT.  The chemistry seems to be a lot better now.

Really liking the blue finish on the drums. Looks like he arranged the bassdrums a little more symmetrical, I like symmetrical things. Beautiful kit!  :metal

I wonder if the two smaller basses are for show since he no longer has the giant 26" bass drum.

And since he explained that it was for powerful intros and accents - why would you need 4 bass drums of similar size ?

I think take those out and the kit will actually look a lot less oversized.
