Most demolished structure/building in movie history?
« on: April 25, 2011, 08:22:21 PM »
I'm watching X-Men 3 right now, and they rip apart the Golden Gate Bridge. So, I wondered how many times I've seen the Golden Gate Bridge being demolished in movies, or the White House.

Any guesses of what the most demolished one is?

I would guess the Statue of Liberty has taken more shit than the Golden Gate Bridge.  I don't have any numbers or support for this, but obviously they're both up there.

I know the Statue of Liberty is constantly destroyed.

Statue of Liberty:

Planet of the Apes
The Day after Tomorrow
Independance Day
NYC: Tornado Terror
Cloverfield
Deep Impact

These are just the ones that came to immediate thought, I'm sure there are many more that I haven't seen/am forgetting/etc.

The Eiffel Tower also always seem to go pretty fast in movies.

I remember seeing Armageddon in like 1999 or so and complaining that the Twin Towers never got destroyed in any movie.

I knew they were making a Battleship movie, but I didn't know they already made one based on Life.

My house. Case in point: I have never seen it in any of the reconstruction scenes at the end of any disaster movie.

I'm almost certain it's the Chrysler Building. NY gets destroyed more than any other city, and it's such an iconic building.

I'm also going with statue of liberty. Because it's a symbol of justice and freedom and blabla, it seems to be a prime target for movie makers.

Interesting, short article on the subject that points out a few (but doesn't ultimately answer the question):  https://www.suite101.com/content/buildings-destroyed-in-movies-a207645

This one is pretty neat and has some clips of this person's "top 10" list (I think the last one is pretty cool):  https://blog.jinni.com/2009/08/all-time-best-disaster-movie-scenes/
