Just discovered this on facebook and thought you might enjoy this:
In order to get attuned for the royal wedding we'll all turn ourselves into aristocrats. Do as follows: Take the first names of both your grandpas/grandmas, insert an 'of', then take the name of your first pet and the name of the street you grew up in and join those two with a hyphen. Crown your creation with a preposed Lord or Lady.

Forthwith I shall be known as Lord Stanislaus Walter of Fattie-Sall.
Lord Kenneth Arthur of Fatty-Laird

Is there something about fat pets that makes people listen to DT?

I... actually don't know the names of my grandparents on my father's side. They died before I was born. Well, one not long after, but before I was really sentient enough to know what was going on. Crikey. That's a quirky way to make a daunting realisation.

Except that as noted before, the Queen actually has a damn important job that allows the prime minister to function far more sensibly, and bring in money for the country, overall being pretty much a plus to the country.

If the UK was a republic we would most likely have a president/head of state as well as the prime minister who would head the government.  The USA is quite unique in that the head of state doubles as head of government as well.  It's true that the royal family brings in revenue through tourism, but if the royals didn't exist anymore I'm sure there would still be a substantial amount coming in from royalty-related tourism, Buckingham Palace wouldn't be going anywhere.

This is getting a bit too P&R....

It wouldn't bring in any where near as much, and as she doubles as a figurehead for important events, it's a net positive all over.

This reminds me of last summer when our Swedish princess got married. The whole country went bananas over this, except me. Never been a royalist, and I don't know her personally.

Here's a question we were wondering at work: Is Charles simply assumed to be never King? And also, could Elizabeth have passed on the crown if she had wanted to, or only through her death?

Plus... call me a sceptic, but this is pretty conveniently timed. With the economy as it is, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a bit of "wouldn't it be good to get married now?" kind of prodding.

Frankly, though, I don't give a toss. I've yet to meet one person who cares - which does make me wonder who the target audience is. It's like when everyone was mourning Diana. Yes, it's tragic, but three months on? Who are these people?!

That question goes both ways, by the way. Not only "who's actually capable of getting excited about this," but who are the royal family? I know more about David Tennant's life, or Jonathan Ross's, than I do about Queen Liz's. Heck, I know more about what Julius Caesar was like as a person, and nobody on this planet's met the lad. If her spawn gets married then that's just super, but she's not a woman anyone feels any kinship with whatsoever. She doesn't have a visible personality. No notable interests. I don't feel like I'd share any common ground with her. She's just... there. Same applies to the entire family.

Still! I'm not complaining. Pleased someone's making a buzz out of it, 'cause we all benefit. Not gonna bite the hand that feeds me. Lots of currency washing up on our shores - lovely jubbly.

Absolutely baffled by the entire affair, but I'm not in a hurry to question it.

Lol, I will not wake up at 4 am this Friday (I only wake at 7 am) but I found this little gem hysterical:

Mr. Bean is invited.

Obama is not.

:lol As a politician, you have to appear in those events.

Haha! Classic! That is actually awesome, do you reckon he will take teddy?

He was a goldfish, and he was really fat. I didn't name him.
Also, I'm sorry to hear that you never knew your grandparents, but it's easier when they pass away before you're "sentient." My grandfather actually passed away during the night before 6th birthday. There was no party that day.

I do believe that Charles isn't really assumed to be King; considering how long the women of that family live, it may be quite a while before the Queen passes on the title, and the odds are they'll just skip Charles and give the crown to William.

And the Queen could abdicate if she wished; but that's a very uncommon thing to do. The monarchs rule until they die, and abdicating the throne for the next in line (especially a divorcee) is a no-no.

I can't say I really care much about the Royal Wedding, other than the fact that I think Kate is really pretty and will make a nice princess and later queen.  But I guess I understand why people are making such a big deal about it, including the media.

The world is nuts right now, the economy sucks, things are generally in a low part of whatever cycle they follow, and this is a distraction from all that.  Lots of little girls dream of one day marrying a handsome prince and living happily ever after (thank you, Walt Disney) and look, here's a girl who's actually gonna do it.  Following her in the media is like the ultimate reality show.  I can even understand how some guys, even straight guys, might be kinduv into it.  He's a prince, he's gonna marry a pretty girl and live in a freakin' castle and one day be King of England.  It doesn't get much better than that.  I'd rather watch that on TV than the latest news about unemployment, gas prices, and mortgage foreclosures.

Excuse me for my non-knowledge regarding the British monarchy, but why would Charles not gain the kingship if Elizabeth was to die?  It would seem logical that he is next in line, considering he's the eldest son, unless he was to die first, which seems improbable, though he is getting up there in the years.

he is getting up there in the years.

That would be why. Since Queen Elizabeth is unlikely to die any time soon, he may be too old by then for it to be worth crowning him.

Now that Kate & Willie are marrying, when will the spaceship crash into Buckingham Palace?

I wonder how many people realise how much the Commonwealth (and Nepal) still props up the British army.

Watched most of the wedding, it was really nice. Prince Harry is such a cheeky lad, the Middletons all look amazing, and Princess Beatrice (who was sat behind the queen) is a gargoyle and had the worst hat I've ever seen. :lol

What's her sister's name?  I didn't watch the ceremony, but could Google some pics.
