Philippa.

I didn't watch it fully either, just about 20 min of it once the snooker had ended

Pippa, not Philippa.

Except that as noted before, the Queen actually has a damn important job that allows the prime minister to function far more sensibly, and bring in money for the country, overall being pretty much a plus to the country.

If the UK was a republic we would most likely have a president/head of state as well as the prime minister who would head the government.  The USA is quite unique in that the head of state doubles as head of government as well.  It's true that the royal family brings in revenue through tourism, but if the royals didn't exist anymore I'm sure there would still be a substantial amount coming in from royalty-related tourism, Buckingham Palace wouldn't be going anywhere.

This is getting a bit too P&R....

It wouldn't bring in any where near as much, and as she doubles as a figurehead for important events, it's a net positive all over.
Plus... call me a sceptic, but this is pretty conveniently timed. With the economy as it is, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a bit of "wouldn't it be good to get married now?" kind of prodding.

Frankly, though, I don't give a toss. I've yet to meet one person who cares - which does make me wonder who the target audience is. It's like when everyone was mourning Diana. Yes, it's tragic, but three months on? Who are these people?!

That question goes both ways, by the way. Not only "who's actually capable of getting excited about this," but who are the royal family? I know more about David Tennant's life, or Jonathan Ross's, than I do about Queen Liz's. Heck, I know more about what Julius Caesar was like as a person, and nobody on this planet's met the lad. If her spawn gets married then that's just super, but she's not a woman anyone feels any kinship with whatsoever. She doesn't have a visible personality. No notable interests. I don't feel like I'd share any common ground with her. She's just... there. Same applies to the entire family.

Still! I'm not complaining. Pleased someone's making a buzz out of it, 'cause we all benefit. Not gonna bite the hand that feeds me. Lots of currency washing up on our shores - lovely jubbly.

Absolutely baffled by the entire affair, but I'm not in a hurry to question it.
Last year was the election. Next year the Olympics.

I'm an american, so I honestly have no idea but...

what powers does the queen technically have?
I think she is a Field Marshall of the British Army and apparently also receives intelligence reports of certain natures before the Prime Minister.

Also, she can't be tried by a court of law because she IS the law.

Did anybody notice that the Princes' car didn't have a number plate - maybe that's a prerogative as well.

I was surprised that William and Kate were going out for 10 years before they got married.

Thanks for that.  Pippa seems more "cute" and Kate is more "pretty" but they're both quite attractive.

The Queen is the only person alive today who held a commanding rank during WWII.

What cracks me up (well, there's actually a ton of stuff, but as for right this second) is that we all know they'll be getting divorced within 10 years anyway.

I'd be willing to bet money that this doesn't happen.

i like that this still has meaning to some people. alot of people all over the world were shown having a great time because of the wedding. The whole 'im too cool for this' is useless, if you dont care, then whatever, carry on. The amount of statuses on facebook and twitter i saw this morning bashing it were incredibly dumb.

Quick silly question; are the British royals considered superior human beings in England? cause that whole thing gave me that impression, no sarcasm here.

It was a Royal function, but not a State function, as William is not the current monarch or next in line.  This meant that they had a lot more freedom concerning who they invited or didn't invite.
