Should I reset my last.fm?
« on: April 19, 2011, 09:21:43 PM »
My last.fm is very skewed and I just wanted to even it out a bit.  Plus, I have a bunch of stuff from playing tracks for school that really doesn't completely reflect on my musical tastes.  I mean it may be pointless.  But I just want your input.  New computer, new start..?

It's up to you, mate.  It makes sense.  I'd consider doing it, but I've not reached a point where I'm too disappointed with my overall artists.

Many people will disagree and say that it should reflect everything you've listened to, not just currently but for the amount of time you've had it.  But hell, I'm all for it, some people only look for your overall and it would give them a better idea of where you are as far as what you listen to.

Well if you're having trouble quitting Last.fm then a reset will be ideal. I mean I had trouble figuring out if I should quit or not. Now I have and I haven't even reset it.
I feel very good about quitting Last.fm, but in your case a reset is fairly pointless.

I actually don't want to quit it.  I actually quit it for over a year, and I just felt like starting up again.  It doesn't really hurt anything.

It's up to you. Honestly, it's just a fun little thing, if you want to do it, then do it. Personally, I would never reset my last.fm because I love to keep track of statistics and things like that.

You could always just create a new last.fm and keep the old one. That way, you keep your old listening history and can still start fresh.

Why does last.fm become such a big deal with some people?

Because it's more addicting than meth.

Yeah, I don't get. When I had my first one, I'd artifically change it because I thought certain artists weren't reflected enough. I deleted it when I realized that I was listening to music for the sake of changing my last.fm stats, which was ruining music for me pretty much.

I gave it up when I realized that and started a new one a couple months ago. Now I don't tamper with it at all. I've just come to realize that it pretty much represents what I like, but isn't a perfect representation of what or how much I actually listen to certain artists.

Because it's on the internet.  That automatically qualifies it as a big deal to most people.

Honestly, I don't really understand when people change their listening habits because they want it to look good on their account. Personally, I've never fallen victim to that, and I've been using last.fm for five years now. It's just a fun thing to keep track of your listening history and statistics and to discover new bands/types of music. I usually scrobble everything because I like to keep track of accurate records, but it isn't that big of a deal. It takes me like 10 seconds at the end of the day to make a playlist of songs I didn't scrobble. The coolest feature for me is being able to see what I listened to at any point in time. It's kind of cool to see how your musical tastes have changed and progressed. That's really the whole point of last.fm for me, so I don't know why anyone would reset their last.fm, but if they want to, thats entirely up to them.

It's all fun. If you can't handle it without worrying what artists are getting too many/too few plays, it might not be for you.

Pretty much. I like last.fm as much as the next guy, but if you get worked up about artist representation then you have to remember that maybe, MAYBE four people are ever going to care what your last.fm looks like.

Nah, I can see how it's horribly addicted. I say quit it or just leave it how it is, anyway.

They'd be my number one, but I only spin their records on Vinyl, in an air tight room with perfect acoustics.  Anything less would be nothing short of disrespectful.
