Chapman Stick?
« on: April 13, 2011, 06:35:59 PM »
Hey guys,

I noticed Myung played the Chapman Stick, and it intrigued me as to how it played, and I was wondering, does anyone here have one? How nice are they to learn?

Cheers!

Hi  ;)
As a bassist I can assure you that playing on a chapman stick is 80% tapping, so it's rather advanced level I think... I never had opportunity to try but if I could I would surely do. Tony Levin has done some masterpiece with bass lines on Chapman Stick on many albums, including LTE... If you watch some videos or better, DVD from Los Angeles you'll see what I'm talking about ;)

Man, I hope I can play one day as well. They just look and sound awesome.

They're expensive. I'll never be able to afford one

It's a lot like playing the piano too. Both hands are generally doing something totally different. The learning curve is pretty hard, I hear

Trey Gunn isn't technically a Stickist (he plays a warr guitar) but it's the same concept.

I'd like to try a chapman stick someday.  They seem like they'd be fun to learn.
In high school my buddies and I built a Van Der Graaf generator.  You know, to get girls.

Well, I can sorta play the keyboard/piano...

Maybe I'll just stick to that and try and play in a prog rock band :P
