The Adventures of the West Wind
« on: April 04, 2011, 08:22:22 PM »
Hey DTF,

One night I was pretty bored. While I was revamping my character for Dungeons and Dragons, I turned on iTunes and checked out the Free Songs section. I found an Amon Amarth song there and instantly downloaded it. While I was listening I was finishing up and I thought about an image I made for a playlist I gave to my friends the last time we RP'd. I started thinking and then I got the gumption to turn the simple playlist into a pseudo band, and create a discography for it.

I had a lot of fun doing the images under the thread for DT's 11th album, so I thought this would give me something to do at times. Not to mention this also gave me a reason to try out Photoshop and Fireworks in an experimental nature. So, I came up with 8 Albums, 2 Extended Plays, and 3 Live Albums. I don't have all the artwork done for it, but I'm getting there slowly but surely.

What I would like to know, or read from all of you is if the work looks good, if it sounds cool, if what I'm doing is worth my time, or anything of that nature. (Scio, I'm looking at you for pointers)

So here goes, the band is called The West Wind.

I took a lot of inspiration from Amon Amarth, Alestorm, Tyr, Mastodon, Opeth, Nightwish, pirate songs, drinking songs, and, of course, Dream Theater.

I was just pointing out that the band of color in the sky looks like the French flag.

THIS IS GOLD!!!

Pretty much the only noticeable issue, the foreground looks very detached from the background, especially in the second one. With all the fire in the background, we should have much more dramatic shadows, and possibly the glow effect of the fire on the rocks. On the third one, the ruins in the FG should have the same blueish glow that the BG does. Simple details make a world of difference.

Also, and I'm only saying this from an artist's point of view, not an idealist's, but reflections on the water would be epic.

I love the song/album titles :yarr

Thanks for the pointers, Scio. The hardest part about this media is getting it to have the smooth textures and propable compositions that come with painting. I've heard of this computer program or device that lets you simulate a drawing pad, do you know anything about that or what it's called? Cause I could get into that.
