Update: my new CD coming soon - NOW AVAILABLE!
« on: March 20, 2011, 11:20:18 AM »
UPDATE: new promo video just released: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j40svNlExgU

UPDATE: I am thrilled to announce that my CD, The Desert and the City, has just been released!

The CD is available for purchase on my website, www.mikerood.com, and on CDBaby. It is also available for digital download on iTunes, Amazon, etc.

Be sure to check out the samples from the album, and watch the promo video HERE on YouTube. Feel free to leave a comment on the YouTube page :)

Also, I will be uploading all the scores to the music from the CD to my website, where they can be downloaded for free!

Everyone involved in the making of this CD did absolutely amazing work, and I am very proud of the final product.

I hope you enjoy listening to the music as much as I enjoy playing it!

Sounds fantastic, I really enjoyed the slow jam section at the end of the undeniable sample.

That's also insane that you got to study and play with John Patitucci, I'm extremely jealous. Jazz is something I've always wanted to play on guitar, but I don't have the slightest clue where to start.

thanks man! patitucci is actually writing the liner notes for the CD -- we're getting ready to print the record in the next few days

Love your sound. I'll certainly be getting this when it's released. Who's on sax? He reminds me of a cross between Michael Brecker and Bob Berg.

thanks man -- his name is Mike Bjella, he was my roommate in Brooklyn for a year. He's also really into Warne Marsh and Chris Cheek.

question:

when I'm writing the title should it be:
The Desert and the City
or
The Desert and The City

the first is probably correct, but the 2nd looks better -- what do you think?

my dad is a violininist and played on a few of John's records -- I studied with him a bit, and the rest is history. john was a big influence on me, especially compositionally, so I asked him to do the notes, and he was down :)

Actually the first looks better. Not sure why, but it makes the "City" pop.  ;)

Nice! Thanks for talking about some of the tracks :)
So do you (or would you) call your band The Mike Rood Communion or just Mike Rood Communion?

It arrived today! 7 day delivery I think and I live in the Land Downunder so that's a really good delivery speed :tup

Now. The album! I believe I'm the first DTFer to hear (or at least) report that I've listened to it. It's very good and is one of the best albums so far of 2011 for sure. I'll be listening to it throughout the week.
The Desert And The City, Atonement, The Gate, The Reckoning, Undeniable, and Dark Star are my favourites so far. Sounds excellent on headphones btw.
Congratulations on putting out an awesome debut, Mike! :tup

oh I know -- we made the video in a real hurry and didn't realize the mic wasn't hot enough until later (recorded in a photo camera on video mode).

the CD, on the other hand, is of the highest quality -- we didn't rush that!

so glad you're digging it man! 75% of the record is your favorite - thats pretty good :)

i think my DT influence came out strongest in a few of those songs (The Gate, The Reckoning, Dark Star)

just out of curiousity, what are the headphone you are using?

Shure SRH240 closed backs. I'm a serious music listener so they're great for me and they're not so expensive. I'll be listening to the album tonight on my speakers.
