Pop Idol: The prejury liked my singing, but wanted me to sing some other pop song, as Gethsemane (Jesus Christ Superstar), which I sang first, was too musical; I freaked out, as I didn't know what else to sing (although I prepared), and so bye, bye, Manuel.
X Factor: Prejury, Marco Borsato (Dutch singer), immediate exit.
X Factor: Prejury, Children of the Damned, immediate exit, although everyone thought I was in, as the good bits of the audition was used for the promotional commercial.
The Voice: Prejury, Children of the Damned, which went great, they were impressed, but my radiance/appearence was not good enough (yeah, the prejury can judge that), exit.
Popstars: Prejury, As (Stevie Wonder, yeah, something different, this time), through to the next round with the real jury . . . I received a pretty good advice, then. They liked my light lyric tenor voice quite a lot tonewise, and at first sight (before singing), my presence was promising; my delivery, though, was cold, mechanical, emotionless, closed. I agree, when I film myself playing guitar, it looks quite good, but when I film myself singing a song, it's so . . . robotic. A whole lot of a relaxed attitude with confidence is missing.
Fortunately, it's getting better and better. Mind, that I participated a lot, because 1: it's free (except for the travel costs); 2: save for the commercialism, the camera's, the entertainment around it, it's no different from an audition for a play or musical; 3: It's great fun to do, it's very exciting.
