Dream Theater Tattoos
« on: March 14, 2011, 02:27:14 PM »
Hey guys, I'm doing a Ytse Times thing about Dream Theater tattoos. I was wondering if you have any if you would mind posting them. That'd be awesome!

In the little bit of looking around I've done, I found this interview which basically describes every one MP has. Pretty cool stuff. Thanks.

Man, some of MP's tattoos ... not so good. What's with the double-penis quarter note?

Does anyone else find it amusing that the two members who have had the Majesty logo tattooed on them are both no longer in the band?

The thing about tattoos is, I would always be afraid that 5 years down the road I'm just not into whatever it is anymore. Point in case, had I gotten a DT tattoo at some point I probably would me "meh" about it.

I have had a conversation with my girlfriend regarding this type of situation. She stated (paraphrase of course) "I will never be ashamed or regretful about one of my tattoos because it represents that period of my life.". Now of course I imagine she would be a bit regretful if she decided in a tattoo while in a drunken stupor.

Having a mullet represented my late teens/early twenties, but that doesn't mean I want one for life to represent that period of my life. :lol

You can only have one hairstyle at one time though. She also put thought into her tattoos, they're not retarded flaming skulls or naked chicks.

No tattoos yet, but I plan to get two eventually, one on each shoulder. One will be a design for Rush, and the other will be the Majesty symbol.

I've never been one to get a band name or logo, because I have a fear that the band would become uncool or kinda lame (see Queensryche).  But I was very very close last year to getting a tattoo symbolizing DT's greatest hit: "Pull Me Under."  That is a classic song from the greatest prog metal abum of all time and that can never become uncool or lame.  The tattoo was going to be the sparrow from the album cover flying downward through the clouds and maybe say "Pull me under, I'm not afraid."

For the first time I realise/see there is a sparrow on the cover.

Yep, it's there!  It's meaningful to me because it's a lyric from PMU and it's DT's greatest hit and Kevin wrote the lyrics, and I'm a big fan of Kevin.  The sparrow line is taken from Hamlet, but the line originated in the Bible.  Plus, i think it could be a cool-looking tattoo.

I have the dredg change symbol tattoo'd on the side of my chest and I'm really happy. I was always hesitant about getting it because what if they started to suck but I got it done and I couldn't be happier. Every time I look at the tattoo when I take my shirt off I'm reminded of a wonderful time in my life that was backed by awesome music.

Ditto... I'm itching to do Setlist Scotty's avatar on my right shoulder.  Such a perfect blend of my #2 and #3 bands' logo's (Zeppelin is #1, and I have the four symbols on my left shoulder).
I'm actually disappointed he's not Kim Jong-Il

My first tattoo is the Majesty symbol, signifying the music which has inspired and influenced my life more than anything else has since I became a DT fan in 2006.

Sun, come shine my way, make healing waters bury all my pain. Wind, carry me home. The fabric of reality is tearing apart. The piece of me that died, will return, to live again. And at last the time has come, to unite again as one. To the power of the Earth, I'm calling. Crossing bridges in the sky, on the journey to renew my life. Shaman, take my haaaaaand!

Boobs are a perfect representation of the universe.  They are circles within circles.  What is the single most common shape in the universe?  Circles.  When I look at boobs, I think of the big bang.
