The ultimate DT song ranking thread
« on: June 15, 2009, 03:11:29 PM »
I've always been interested in getting as close to an actual consensus as possible as to where certain DT songs rank in people's song preferences.  So, while I know this is a bit time consuming, I'm interested in getting as many rankings as possible.  Hopefully, I will have time to tabulate results eventually (or, even better, hopefully, someone will volunteer to do this for me).  So, below is a list of all DT songs appearing on official studio releases from WDADU through SC, including the EP.  Yes, I know there are demos, B-sides, etc. out there.  But this is the list.  Please rank only the songs you've heard.  So if, for example, you only have Images & Words and have never heard another DT song, you would only rank the songs on I&W as 1-8.  So...rank 'em!

The list:

A Fortune In Lies
Status Seeker
The Ytse Jam
The Killing Hand
Light Fuse And Get Away
Afterlife
The Ones Who Help To Set The Sun
Only A Matter Of Time
Pull Me Under
Another Day
Take The Time
Surrounded
Metropolis - Part I "The Miracle And The Sleeper"
Under A Glass Moon
Wait For Sleep
Learning To Live
6:00
Caught In A Web
Innocence Faded
Erotomania
Voices
The Silent Man
The Mirror
Lie
Lifting Shadows Off A Dream
Scarred
Space-Dye Vest
A Change of Seasons
New Millennium
You Not Me
Peruvian Skies
Hollow Years
Burning My Soul
Hell's Kitchen
Lines In The Sand
Take Away My Pain
Just Let Me Breathe
Anna Lee
Trial Of Tears
Regression
Overture 1928
Strange Deja Vu
Through My Words
Fatal Tragedy
Beyond This Life
Through Her Eyes
Home
The Dance of Eternity
One Last Time
The Sprit Carries On
Finally Free
The Glass Prison
Blind Faith
Misunderstood
The Great Debate
Disappear
Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
As I Am
This Dying Soul
Endless Sacrifice
Honor Thy Father
Vacant
Stream Of Consciousness
In The Name Of God
The Root Of All Evil
The Answer Lies Within
These Walls
I Walk Beside You
Panic Attack
Never Enough
Sacrificed Sons
Octavarium
In The Presence of Enemies
Forsaken
Constant Motion
The Dark Eternal Night
Repentance
Prophets Of War
The Ministry of Lost Souls

Didn't the Ultimate Hurt/Heal pretty much solve this last year?

No because (1) heal/hurt threads are lame; (2) if it was last year, that thread no longer exists, and (3) heal/hurt threads are lame.

Maybe we should wait a couple more weeks until we have assimilated BC&SL?

maybe, but to really figure out where those songs sit in your list, you would have to listen to it for a while first.

I agree with that, except I think a lot of people have listened to them quite a bit already  :P.

A lot of us here are like that.  I also prefer the legal method of listening to the artists I love, and want to give my money to so they can continue making great music.

No one needs to have heard BC&SL to know that "The Count of Tuscany" is more epic than ACoS + 8VM + Marisa Tomei + Goku + Neil Patrick Harris. The song's got the words "Count" and "Tuscany" in it for God's sake. Just everyone rank it at #1 and let's move on. :sadpanda:

This is much harder than I thought it would be but I'm working on it. It's especially hard with Scenes from a Memory because I'm so used to thinking of the whole thing as an album and not individual tracks.

I don't want the BCSL songs on the list, which is why I started this thread now instead of waiting.
