"napalm NAPALM SHOWERS" appreciation thread
« on: March 08, 2011, 04:05:35 PM »
Was banging out some code with the headphones on as usual today, and, as usual, my music of choice was the entire DT discography on random shuffle, and WiMH came on.  Love the song, and "napalm NAPALM SHOWERS" is just one of my fav James moments.  Very badass.

just felt like sharing that

What a coincidence, I just worked out in the gym to disc 2 of SDOIT!
Not 'Down To F***', but 'Dream Theater Forums' .

I re-discovered War Inside My Head a couple weeks ago.  Forgot how much I really liked the song.  It was actually one of the songs that got me into DT.

I'd totally re-buy SDOIT on vinyl(s) if ever it were put on such a format.

It's a nice snippet. WIMH is one of the better parts of SDOIT imo.

I always thought SDOIT (the suite) would work very well on vinyl being as it is ~40 minutes, split nicely into two halves

yeah, the second half of the vinyl would perfectly start with Goodnight Kiss since the transition between TTTSTA and GK is not that continuous.

Actually, I like James's delivery of WARRRR INSIDE MY HEAD after the first chorus better, that's just badass. The napalm shower bit is still awesome though.

Been listening to the whole song SDOIT every day for about a week now. Whenever it gets to that lyric in WIMH I'm really reminded of the concept behind the album, this guy having fought in Vietnam etc etc. Love it. Short but sweet.

WIMH is great all the way through. It works really well as a suite with TTTSTA--the "heavy" part of Disc 2. They really need to bring back that vocal style on the new album--I loved how it sounded there, and it worked well on the Stargazer cover too.
Yeah, I have no idea what the cakeless person in that analogy is meant to be eating. If he's got some sort of cake substitute, it should really have been worked into the narrative at some point. As it stands, the options are:

  • Hoard a cake just to stare blankly into its doughy edifice.
  • Make futile chewing motions with your mouth while starving to death.

OMG it's sooo epic on Score  :metal

I prefer that to the studio version, but that's great too. I only wish that one violin player would have properly tuned her instrument. But it doesnt really detract anything
