Digimon (Oh the nostalgia)
« on: February 21, 2011, 02:39:41 AM »
There's a Pokémon-thread here that's pretty huge, and I was thinking that maybe there are some people here who digs Digimon as well.  :)
Growing up during the time when Pokémon/Digimon came in a huge wave (late 90's, early 00's), it was kinda hard not to get involved somehow, and by the time Digimon came out (which was after Pokémon here at least), I was already so interested in the whole cartoon-thing, that the series got me hooked right away.
The reason these nostalgia memories came back to me is because well, I'm sick with fever right now, and I recall being 9-10, spending the day in my bed watching Digimon, the first season.
It was just so great, I always thought Digimon was slightly better then Pokémon, because with Digimon they could talk, instead of repeating their names, and I also thought it was cooler that you had one, instead of having endless amount of creatures.

I also remember when I got Digimon World for PS1 for my birthday back then, a game I haven't even completed until this day, even though I got pretty close. (reached the end-mountain)
Sadly I had problems to get a really good Digimon, and the few times I managed to get MetalGreymon, it managed to die before I trained it up to be good.

I strongly consider downloading the first few Digimon-seasons and watch again, because of the nostalgia.  :heart

I was obsessed with Digimon as a kid, even more so than Pokemon. I had more Digimon cards than Pokemon cards, I would wake up every Saturday morning to watch it on Fox Kids, and I even had a couple of those things...what were they called? the little handheld devices the Digidestined used. Damn, I loved Digimon. Sadly, the movie was kind of shitty, and I never watched past the third season because I outgrew it. But I have nothing but positive memories of Digimon. Much respect to the franchise, a huge and defining part of my childhood...

Remember the Elvis Presley monkey who served as one of Season 1's main villians? That was awesome. :lol

Yep, grew up with Digimon and Pokemon aswell, loved them both. The first Digimon season was amazing and i think i also watched the second one but don't remember watching past that. The music in the series was great. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1uH4BnswKQ Fuck yes.  :hat

Also Gadough:I think they were Digivices or something? Might have to google that one.

I think what I liked more with Digimon, was that it was much more of an adventure.
In Pokemon the fighting was something optional, but in Digimon they had to fight to survive, so it felt more serious or something. :P

Exactly this. The first two seasons of Digimon were killer.

Digimon anime > Pokemon anime

Otherwise:

Pokemon >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Digimon

I've watched the first 4 seasons, not the 5th...

Actually. Even Pikamans vs Imperialdramon = easy Pikamans victory. Thunder is supereffective vs flying.

Ultimate digivolve.

I loved how the young kids' Digimon digivolved into Angemon, and Angewoman.

I may be the only one who enjoyed the movie. It was an emotional movie for me at the time, for a kids movie.

That was in the series... not one of the movies. It was when they were fighting Myotismon.

This, I love LOVE the first season
I imagined the story to go more like this.

I was sitting a traffic light blaring Space Dye Vest and next to me in another car was Kevin Moore. And I'll never be open again.

That's how I saw it as well. Now the only thing I'll give to Digimon is that the anime was much better written. but that's it. Nothing else is better. Nothing.

I don't normally nerdrage like this but damn....you guys have no idea how off you are. Comparing Digimon to Pokemon is like comparing Black Sabbath to Dragonforce. Sure they're both metal, but that's where the comparisons end. It isn't fair to say that Digimon was a lesser version of Pokemon primarily because the two have virtually nothing in common, besides the -mon suffix and the fact that they're both animes centered around little monsters. That's it.

I know, but Digimon was. So I was making an argument relevant to the Pokemon anime, because I think the anime is where people are deriving comparisons from.

I still remember crying every time a Digimon died, when they fell into pieces... kinda sad as a 10 y/o kid to witness death.  :P
Also... Wargreymon was the best them.  :hefdaddy

One of my fav ep's is Weregarurumon vs Myotismon
Such an EPIC fight scene. It's the fight after Myotismon kills the pumpkin and the stones.

Also, Hikari + Takeru ftw.

This is what I though back then too. I haven't bothered to look into it further though.
Cole: "Ow I just got hit in the balls"
Me: "How?"
Cole: "Well you know when you try to scratch your balls, and you scratch too hard?
I'll admit sometimes I want to listen to Dragonforce.

Well...Digimon was mainly an anime. Pokemon was a video game that turned into everything and did relatively well at the anime and card game.

So it makes sense.
