I pre-ordered as well, but I didn't go for the shirt. Didn't look like something I would actually wear. That track sounds killer.

Do labels still send out promo's?
I've searched for reviews of this album and can't find anything.

Don't forget to go to their website at redemptionweb.com and check out their forum on UltimateMetal.com

Need more people on that forum!  I have this one and that one open all day while I'm at work.  I wonder if that's why business has slowed down a bit?  Nah.

Well, I know a guy who knows a guy who...  you get the idea.  Yes, the label still sends out promos.  ::)

The album is solid.  :metal :metal :metal   :metal :metal :metal :metal
Obviously it takes more than one listen to fully "get it".  A couple of people have talked about it on the Ultimatemetal.com forum.  Ray sounds great as always.  The song I like the least on Snowfall is "Fistful of Sand" (sometimes skipping past that one), and after a few listens of This Mortal Coil, I don't think there is a song that I would skip.  Hoping the final mix/master of the album is a bit better than the promo.  Its not mixed very well; its a bit muddy.  But we'll find out soon enough.  It will well be worth the wait.

I just can't wait to hear the second disc of covers, as I only have the first disc.  Hopefully I'll get it in the mail the day of US release!

Redemption's "This Mortal Coil" released today in the U.K.
« Reply #94 on: September 26, 2011, 08:52:52 PM »
You limey bastards get to listen a full two weeks before us here in the states.  You guys suck.  Gotta let us know about the covers disc.  Is their version of "Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding" is just as interesting as DT's version from way back when.  That and the Toto song I'm most interested to hear.

I know the album itself is outstanding.  "Perfect", "Begin Again", "No Tickets To The Funeral", and "Stronger Than Death" really stand out for me.  But the whole album is solid.

Check out their forum on www.ultimatemetal.com for more reviews and info.  You CAN be on both forums!

Ok, so I've heard bits and piece of the album on a teaser and the Noonday Devil track.  I put on earphones and to me Ray's voice sounds somewhat scratchy and gritty, not as clear as the Ray of old.  This is likely due to him smoking.  I was at a show last year where he went to have a cigarette during a long instrumental part of a Fates Warning song.  So, to those that have heard the album, how is his voice?

There's a bit of a teaser on youtube which is pretty good.  The covers sound quite good, I'm most excited about Love to Love, one of UFO's best songs.

Even from the teaser you can tell that Ray sounds pretty rough, still enjoyable, but just rough.

I've heard latest album a few times. To me its sounds more heavier and darker and sometimes more metal straight, little less melodic that Snowfall...but anyway, this music is class in prog metal, it has a few strong moments (like mellow song LET IT RAIN), Ray is perfect as always and lyrics are influenced by Nick's disease.

I would say the Production/Sound is not that great as on Origins or Snowfall...

... surely recommended...

After one listen.

I'm pretty unimpressed.
It's very samey with some of their previous stuff.

I know alot of bands have a "sound" I get that...but...really...they nickelbacked a few of these right from other albums.

Unfortunate.
Take care everyone - Bet you all didn't even notice I was gone.

Ok...I wrote my previous poast was made without hearing the final two tracks of the album.....HOLY FUCK.....the last two make it worth the money.

AMAZING
stronger than death is incredible....

those two songs completely sound...seperate from teh rest of the album which is utterly forgetable.

weird.

While I agree that there are some familiar riffs on this album (I could name everyone I recognised, but I wont), I still enjoyed it after only one listen and I don't regret ordering it. It sucks when bands reuse or rehash old material, riffs and melodies and I'll never understand how some of the blatantly obvious ones seem to slip by the songwriter, but in this case the songs were still very enjoyable.

Nick's probably going to beat me to death with his guitar for pointing out more stuff like this, but I don't mean any offense. I know it's hard to write original music (just about every bit of KrotchRaut is ripped off from something, but that's kind of intentional), and again, I really enjoyed This Mortal Coil and am looking forward to it coming in the mail along with a new shirt, but I can't help but point things like this out. I do it for all my favorite bands. I think Iced Earth is the biggest offender and I love that band to death.

Opeth isn't really my cup of tea. I own Watershed, and enjoy a song or two off that album occasionally, but they just don't do it for me, but I believe I have heard what you're referring to with their song structures.

I've only heard it once, but I remember liking it. I was listening at work while throwing freight so I tried to focus on the album as much as possible. I do remember the last song being a mix of Transcendence and Life In One Day, which was pretty cool.
